heart attack

At 49 I thought that I was in pretty good shape. Working a full time job at 50 to 60 hours a week. Blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol have always been good and in check. I didn’t take any kind of medication at all. Of all my Fam and friends my age I had thought to be more fit then most. But life gave me a shock.

Saturday the 25th of Aug I was outside play with my 3 kids when I had a heart attack.  On the 3rd day in the hospital I then had a stroke to add on. I needed time for a ton of testing and for some vision to come back. Have done every kind of testing U could think of -  MRI’s, MRA’s, 5 different spots of ultrasound, cam probe down my throat, and a cardiac catheterization. More to come on top of all this. Seams that I also have one value that is leaking. Time and more tests will tell if open heart surgery is needed to fix it.

On full time disability now so finally getting some of the bills paid LOL The stroke took all my peripheral vision to the left. Not a good thing for a truck drive to lose. Needless to say I’m not allowed to drive at this time. Hoping in time some of my vision will come back. Still have a long way to go but feeling good.

Update #10

OMG … Rowen is good to go! Mom and she made the long car ride home yesterday.  :)  She has one more day of wraps and then they can come off too. Weaning is going okay and should be done by first week in May.

Breastfeeding has been really difficult to get Rowen to latch. It's heartbreaking for me because it was so easy and natural before surgery. Hope she’ll get going soon to keep up her strength.

Update #9

On April 15 at 7am Rowen had her pins and traction were removed. MRI of her hips looked very good. Her hip bones were healing very nicely.

It is such an amazing feeling to hold my baby again! I have missed it so much.

Guesses on how big Rowen is now?!? She was 11.6oz 23 1/2in when arrived in March!

Update: Here it is!!!!!!!! She got so big!

 She's 15lbs 26in

Yesterday was VERY difficult! Rowen was so sore and just cried all day long. Today has been a bit better :)

Stent #2 was removed today! She still has her SP tube and it will not be removed until her ultrasound comes back and kidney function looks perfect, hopefully that will happen in the next 4 days. She will stay mermaid wrapped for 2 weeks to ensure complete healing, her legs are extremely sore and hurts her to move them still. Weaning the large list of narcotics Rowen is on will take awhile and the pain team is going slow to make sure she is comfortable.

On top of the meds an issue we are facing is eating by mouth. Unfortunately Rowen has not taken a bottle or breast since before surgery and is still on her NG tube. We are working with OT on feeding.

Please pray/send good thoughts that Rowen will wean well and start eating soon! I am so thankful for everyone’s support and love! Team Row Boat!!!

Update #8

Rowen is into week 5! She turned 6 months on Wednesday, I can't believe it! She is still being heavily sedated to keep from wiggling around. X ray is scheduled for Monday and the results will let tell us when she can be free from pins and traction:)
Please pray she has had amazing bone healing and can be free by Wednesday! We can't wait to hold our baby ninja. Thank you everyone we love you!

Update #7

Guesssss what?!?! Rowen finally went poo yesterday! She has been cleared to start liquids. They are going to try pedialyte and then after a few hours breast milk! I can't even tell you how excited we are!

Rowen can finally eat! Unfortunately she wasn't really taking the bottle this morning. I think with all the medication she is on to keep her still makes her to sleepy to want to eat :(  We hope she will take some soon so she can get that belly full and build up some strength. Thank you everyone for the prayers and support! Rowen is one lucky girl to have an army behind her.

Knew she would be in the hospital on the holiday so took these before she went in :)

Update #6

Grrrrrr  still nothing. Tomorrow will be over a week since poor Rowen has eaten! I feel so terrible. I know she's so hungry. I hope they can give her something else to help her go. Her dex was increased again due to her wiggle self. They underestimate the strength of our daughter! Looks like we will be in the PICU longer then most. That's okay though the nurses and team here are awesome and understanding!

Guess who we have smiling today! Rowen is having a good day! Still no poop but hopefully soon. I think she's getting used to not eating poor munchkin. She has been very happy today and not as much wiggling! She just wants to be a baby an wiggle around which isn't allowed for her recovery. We're still in the PICU and unfortunately. Phillip isn't being granted any more time to stay with us. He went home today. It's going to be tough by myself.

Update 5

So many machines for our little Row Row! She is being switched from morphine to another drug(forgot the name starts with D) due to breathing complications. Hopefully this will help her sleep and she will start breathing normal again. Come on baby girl!

3 days after N still trying to open those eyes. They are so puffy still she rarely opens them! Even all puffy she is the cutest!

Update 4

All went smoothly yesterday. After about 9 hours of surgery Rowen came though it fine. They were able to break her hips again and reset all her organs to fit correctly. She will be in traction 6 to 8 weeks.  Pins were set to help the hips alinement.  The MRI and inspection found out that she does have all her female parts so after a couple more surgeries (years to come) Rowen will be able to have kids and hold her pee. LOL

Update 3

Yesterday Rowen, Mom n Dad made the trip from Ga. to Baltimore. They are staying in the Ronald McDonald house for now. Rowen has an orthopedics appointment today. Then will check in John Hopkins on Tuesday for MRI and bowel prep. The main surgery is set for Wednesday at 7:30am.

Update 2

Good morning! We are less then a week away from surgery. I can't believe how fast the time has gone since Rowens EUA. Rowen has had her physicals and has an appointment with orthopedics March 2nd and checking into Hopkins March 3rd. We're starting to pack and get ready for our long stay in Baltimore. Phillip has been given 2 weeks to stay with us at the hospital I am praying after that time is up he will be allowed to take more time. Rowen needs both her parents to be there for her during recovery and learn more on her condition condition and I also need Phillip there for emotional support along with helping make decisions for her care.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us :) We can't thank you enough, Rowen definitely has an army behind her! She is doing amazing growing and smiling away.
