Wandering in the dark
Out in the world on a lark
My eyes see the twisting contortions
as I consider the varied libations
People wander by caught up in the race
Distant horns sound in my ears
Reviving old fears
My past creeps upon me once again
Just as I have found something in the rain
I wonder do my eyes show the fear
Am I to deal with another reality tear?
An everlasting cycle it seems
of the changes I could write reams
Images float past my minds eye
As I watch and sigh
Those around me don't seem to have a clue
To what has me in its grip and sweating into my shoes
The horrors of explosive moments of death and mayhem
twisting in the wind as I hold on to them
The momentary thunderstorm in my head
Passes back into my memories bed
Understated movement in the dark
Wild moments on a lark
Strange people wandering through my home
Memories of green pacific foam
Words tossed about
Words that make people shout
Words that misrepresent
Words to make others vent
Convoluted thoughts rapid fire
Things that can start a fire
Spiraling actions that trigger
Snap judgments all the quicker
I sometimes just tire of humanity
As they continually try my sanity
Regardless of the contrivance
I continually see the other presence
Twisted deduction, for rationalization
So that that they may have grounds for rumination
It all just tires me to deal with such things
So many lost, so many that forgot how to make their souls sing
We teach dishonesty to the young
For we want them to feel the pressure of the same gun
I see the lost look in their eyes
As a small part of their soul dies
We trap ourselves in a continuous decent
We know the way out but we do not relent
Deeper we must go, on with this twisted show
It seems to be humanities demented flow
In the distance the clouds float
I stand and stare as they morph, transfixed
Like slow moving explosions in the ethereal loam
Thunderheads move into the mix
Flashes in the darkness
Rolling thunder shakes the ground
The rain descends in buckets
So loud it falls without a sound
A THOUGHT ON WHERE WE ARE
(Our government's actions on our freedoms aka the patriot act and other laws they have passed.i am a firm believer in what ben franklin said "those willing to give up some freedom for a little safety deserve nither")
Insanity to the core
Darkness and insipid chores
My dead cat on the floor
An old man drinks at the corner
As I catch a floating feather
These days are getting better
Twisted thoughts flit thru the mind
As I wander thru the daily grind
Out here on societies shorn rind
I dare not lose my view
Or deviate from my oath so true
Must avoid hells flue
Comments I make and cant deny
A part of me is still shy
As my spirit still flys
The old one drinking starts to talk
And those around him visibly balk
And the ignorant start to mock
He tells of days gone by
And of the things our parents tried
The things for which they vied
He rambled on an on for some time
Looking about as if one of us was going to shine
And no longer toe the line
My mind whispered things to me
That this man knew more than he professed to see
And was talking with a hidden glee
He stopped suddenly and looked about
Then started to shout
Pointed at a man and screamed THE GOVERRNMENTS SNOUT!
A small man stared back incredulous
In askance he said whets this!
I am not the government's proboscis
But then with a grin on his face he said: now listen
And as he spoke his brow glistened
To home with you all he said or you will be listed
At that all the sheep true shuffled off like the sheep they be
And he looked at me
As I placed my back against a tree
I smiled at the little man bureaucrat
Thinking to myself so this is a human rat
I shall be my best cat
He stared at me hard as if his eyes were a threat
And said loudly you dare to take my bet?
His eyes shown fear when mine they met
The little man knew he had met a man that thought free
And that could cause him to be chased up a tree
One who would gather forces on the levee
The people tire of the governments actions
I said to gage his reaction
And belief in bureaucratic action
He said: enough will listen
And the others will go to prison
For we enter a new season
He started babbling at this point
About our safety and governments might
And how most won't miss their rights
He is a believer in power
A sheepdog who shuns liberties flower
Just talking to him makes me want to shower
So now I know I must choose; be a sheep or be free
I choose freedom even if it means me hanging from a tree
Come join me we will make a stand on the levee
If you hide you get what you deserve
Only you can get up the nerve
Stand up yell and be heard
And if you don't I wont hear you whine
I will be hanging from that tree your lost freedoms sign
As like a sheep with bowed head you dine
Knowing smirks
Personality quirks
The mind reels
The scent of orange peels
Coffee steaming
Lost souls dreaming
Distant aircraft
Lost souls on a raft
Stoners giggle
Tweakers wiggle
Police in the sky
Lost children cry
Burnished sun sets
Track hounds make bets
Dominos slapped on glass tables
Spoiled little girls in stables
Orange county contradictions
And twisted odd traditions
Not always what it seems
And never without its wings
Cracker Jack bureaucrats stand proud
As those they serve scream loud,
And freedom disappears under securities cloud
They claim the government needs to snoop
Your phone, your computer, her come the intelligence troops
They seek to be inside every loop
From terrorism they claim to protect us,
And in the name of freedom they continue to press
Soon we will no longer have a way to seek redress
They want to know what you read
They want to know what you speak
They care not whose freedom they bleed
And they believe we have become meek
Under the banner of safety they push for more
They seek a step by step constitutional repeal to the core
An inch by inch shutting of freedoms door
It's their own power they seek to feed
And their own personal greed
They precipitate this horrible misdeed
They already are finding out what you read
They already recruit those to tell them what you speak
They are already planning on what next to feed
I no longer smell freedom free, just a police state stink
Yes I can see it coming
The constitution is burning
The people are swallowing propaganda
Giving freedom for safety like its manna
The darkness encroaches a little bit at a time
Until you are too deep to realize how deep they have buried you in their grime
Wildly blowing winds
Dark clouds to the west
Revelations give the bends
Odd moments putting you to the test
Falcons drift by on currents
Deer flit from bush to bush
Bears munch on currants
As the outside world goes by in a rush
We wander through all this mess
Paying little heed to the beauty under our noses
Whining about inconsequential b.s.
As many stomp upon natures roses
Sitting in the rain
Contemplating twists of Cain
Blue skies above grey
It's just another day
Cigarettes burn in the ashtray
As I remember Avalon bay
Quiet thoughts slip through the mind
And beautiful vistas with rains that bind
Afternoons lost wandering the hills
Nights deepening and sunsets off movie reels
It's all just a journey through life
Eventually to find deaths kind knife
Moments in the rain
Coffee outside under an umbrella
Whispers of music & disdain
Long read words of the Dali lama
What is that sound on the street
Ahhh just another dork spinning his wheels
Yet another poor lost geek
Avoiding himself lost in day to day deals
We lose ourselves in the race
Always trying to impress the rest
Ever the quickening pace
And a striving for the best
What happened to being human?
What happened to long quiet walks in the forest?
How did we end up this far from our clan?
Mother earth must look at us an tsk tsk
We worry about who has what
And what does he believe
Then try to get more stuff
And tell him change what he believes
For we forget that we are all the same
We all bleed the same regardless of belief
And we act inhuman to one another to our shame
Will we ever find any relief?
Our history is rife with the dead
That died for what they thought
The streets have run red
With the atrocity we have brought
And so often these things are done in a gods name
Almost always a god that claims forgiveness or peace and love
But they all end up the same brining that blood red rain
And the destruction of peaces dove
Walk on quietly and speak not of your god to me
I have read his books and listened to his preachers many
And been told to open my eyes and see
Often with much acrimony
But I have opened my eyes and accepted what is true for me
You claim an evil one has blinded mine eyes
I act more like what you profess than you don't you see?
Your blinding ignorance my patience and civility tries
But I refuse to be dragged to your level again
You may lose yourself in your blind faith complete
And claim every atrocity you commit is a gain
I will walk away and hopefully you give me some respite
Quiet moments in the dark.
Long car trips on a lark.
The mind wanders about the murk
As you search for money for the clerk.
Caffeine induction to awaken the mind,
And long drive to escape societies bind.
Glittery sunset in the desert at 60mph
Followed with heavy nighttime rain showers.
Wrangling with your chattel
As you check into another lonely motel.
You sense the spirits that never left,
And the sorrow with which they're bereft.
You watch the road from the dingy window
As the desert puts on its own little sideshow.
Your thoughts drift back,
Back to her arm and kisses on the neck.
Those moments alone in the dark like now,
And how you could've ever lost her, oh how,
And you drift off to sleep and dreams.
Always exploring realities inseams.
