A Knowing Smile

Carefully,
Yet with an inner strength
I'd give my right arm to possess,
He gave me a smile,
A true smile,
One that knows how I feel
Though I try to hide it.
The kind of smile that
Is like a wonderful spear,
It pierces my weakness,
The darkness I cower in,
And melts it.
A smile that shines like
the glorious sun
In winter.

A smile I see when I close my eyes.

Poem By Tammy C.

Where do we go?

When we get beyond the obsessions
and recriminations?

I’d give a lot for a little relief

From myself
From my values
My past

But that’s not in the game

I’m told not to keep score
To not do what I am told

Then we get beyond that
To emotion
And using our heads

But speaking in voices
Doesn't always
Get you out of the cave

The sun does not go down
It goes around

And so do we

There is no
End of the story
We go beyond that.

Rhythmic Hearts

Two hearts
Beating
Inches apart,
A cadence
With hypnotic
Rhythm.
I can't tell
Which beat
Is mine
Or which
Is yours.

The tempo changes,
From allegro to vivace,
As our bodies entwine.

We're lost in the moment,
We've conquered time.

Seeking

Pile complexity on innocence
And you see my mind.
My heart, a whirlpool:
A waterfall of
Generosity
A river of
Compassion.

My reaching soul
Is the wind that sweeps silently
Through the dark universe
Seeking light.

At times,
At the end of the Milky Way,
I stop to turn right into a little hut
Sit in a wicker chair
And there drink a thimbleful
Of the aqueous essence
Of the universe.

Poem By Tammy C.

Can you tell me where the flowers are
That glorified our hill;
The purple-tinged wisteria,
The honeyed daffodil?

And where have all the starlings flown,
The grebes, the chickadees,
That raised a psalm to each new morn
With awe-filled symphonies?

I’ve noticed, too, the spruce and fir
That boldly stood their ground
When wind and flood and winter storm
With fury did astound;

Are numbered just a precious few
That have managed to forestall
The woodsman’s axe, the dozer’s blade,
The chain saw and the maul.

The soil that once absorbed the rain
To replenish wells below
Have been stripped away – no deep-set roots
To stem the rapid flow.

The rain now rushes undeterred
Over cragged, barren ground,
And dumps its grimy sediment
Into river, lake, and sound.

Butterfly Lullaby

Today is a day for dreaming.
Sit quietly in the lush grass.
Look to the sky and sigh,
As fluffy, golden clouds pass.
Dream. Imagine. Remember.
Watch closely the last butterfly.

Today is a day for dreaming.
Listen to the birds slowly sing.
Know what their lyrics imply,
All the calm that they bring.
Dream. Imagine. Remember.
Watch closely the last butterfly.

Today is a day for dreaming.
Let all your thoughts soak in.
Learn how to say good bye,
And continue on with life again.
Dream. Imagine. Remember.
Watch closely the last butterfly.

Today is a day for dreaming.
Dream of the times to come.
Imagine how it would be to fly.
Remember times forgotten by some.
Dream. Imagine. Remember.
Watch closely the last butterfly.

Waiting to meet again.

Sepia coloured memories
Are all that is left,
As the long journey of life
Nears its end.

The gnarled and twisted fingers,
Once strong and deft,
Lay resting in his lap.
The tired joints have met their defeat.

Proud shoulders; square and straight
Crumpled slightly inward now--
The vitality of life
Bending against his will.

Cobblestone thoughts
Stumble through his brain.
Gone are the streets and avenues
Of Clarity and Wit.

But his eyes refuse to dim--
They are aglow with passion.
For when the curtain falls,
He will know love again.

She is waiting there for him...
...just up ahead.

Awake

Sleep, so gentle, so tender,
That it brims over my eyelids.
But NO –
I will not let slumber overwhelm me.
The land of sleep beckons
With its fantastic dreamlands.
Away from friends and foes,
Away from all my joys and anguish.
Here in the falling clouds of darkness,
I can lose myself.
And never fear, what others
Think or feel or do of me!

The wondrous world of sleep
Is not for me.
I must stay awake –
To feel every twinge of happiness,
To wince at every throb of pain.
Walk through every flowering avenue of joy,
And journey through every dark wood of betrayal!

I will remain awake –
Through every moment
Of this life that I must live.

One can choose to live thier life medicated,

Thrust into the rabbit hole or

they can remain awake.

Sunrise

There are moments in a sunrise
Like a flooding tide
Light and shadows glide
Through canyons and fields
A song too universal for melody
A Dance too intricate for steps

Only here, as the light eclipses
Where all that has been and will be
Am I free of time and present
In this everyday eternity

  Poem By Tammy C.

Life Moves Fast

The day I pealed fresh eyes
To view the world
For the first time.
Innocence intact
I went on the run,
Never looking back.
The beach painted my toes in red
As if the grains of sand
Were billions of burning coals.
I longed for an oasis I could never reach.
All the while learning lessons
A professor couldn’t teach.
My footprints covered the peak of Everest
As if the snow were wet cement
I was 29 000 feet tall
Screaming, "who am I" into the quiet,
I am me after all
Echoed as if I were preaching
Into an empty bottle of my favorite drink.
Smoke billowed from my fingertip
As if it were a loaded gun
As I carved my signature into the sun
God was just a step away
but again I was on the run.
