I actually have a 100%, certified, true life mummable moment in my life today!
Emptying out yesterday's papers from my 1st grade daughter's backpack THIS MORNING; (YES, I know I'm a ducky excuse for a daddy a lot of days.) I came upon a paper completed in class where they had to write a sentence shown on the page. "My dog is funny." My clever girl changed is to was and then wrote the sentence that was true to her life over the past few months, "My dog was funny." (And she was...incredible really. I should post a video of her playing with the babies or even send it to AFV..Like THAT funny.)
So teach made her erase the correction and the "was" in the sentence she wrote but it was still there...Like you know how pencil is still there a little after erasing?
So I'm torn. She really misses the dog and is so thoughtful a child that it's a bit too often to be healthy I think. And I must present the additional evidence that as much as we have tried to help her with the loss we also have been accepting when she is adequately distracted enough not to notice certain things that remind the adults of Monkey.
Do I bring it up and talk about the importance of following directions in class, even when it's emotionally charged for us personally, so she doesn't think her teacher is an unfeeling monster or just brush it under the rug?
Also do I say anything to teach? (Obviously she knew the correct, past-tence of the verb in question and did you really have to make a sticking point out of our dead dog?!?) |
