If 2 people have been best friends for a long time, is it ok for them to start dating? Or would that ruin a great friendship?

Some people say, "That it is better to date your best friend because you already know everything about each other and you already have some type of love there".

Others say, "Don't ruin what you already have, as friends are hard to come by".
