PHILADELPHIA — A suspicious package was discovered aboard a UPS cargo flight from Yemen, CNN reported, triggering searches of other cargo flights, including several at Philadelphia and Newark airports.

The report followed word Friday from the Transportation Security Administration that cargo flights that landed safely at Newark and Philadelphia airports were being searched after "reports of potentially suspicious items onboard."

A suspicious package was discovered aboard a UPS cargo flight from Yemen, CNN reported, triggering searches of other cargo flights, including several at Philadelphia and Newark airports. Full story

"Out of an abundance of caution the planes were moved to a remote location where they are being met by law enforcement officials and swept," TSA added.

The flight that landed at Newark, N.J., reportedly came from Yemen.

At Philadelphia, video from the airport showed emergency vehicles around a UPS jet that had arrived from Paris.

"A possible explosive device" was being sought, airport spokeswoman Victoria Lupica was quoted by the Philadelphia Inquirer as saying.  But Fire Department spokesman Carl Grimes mentioned "a possible radiological incident."

UPS stated that "we are cooperating fully with authorities in Philadelphia. The aircraft has been isolated; the shipment in question is being removed. The aircraft involved is a two-crew member plane. The crew has been safely evacuated."

A second UPS cargo flight that was to depart from Philadelphia was also being searched, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

In New York, a police spokesman said a UPS delivery truck was also being investigated in the city's borough of Queens, but no further details were immediately available.

If this wasn't so scary, I'd suggest FedEx was trying to eliminate the competition..

UPDATE: On CNN's website, it's being reported that the UPS vehicles being searched had packages from a common address in Yemen. Also, the searches were sparked because a suspicious package with "manipulated" toner cartridges with wires and strange powder attached was discovered on a plane in the UK. More as I find out...

UPDATE: The truck is incorrect - there was no truck searched. More as I find out...

- Reeka - We met in a MuMM because I said "collar". That was rather fun! We have gotten very close in the last year and half. You have helped me a lot to become the point hoar I am today! I love chatting with you - in comments and shouts and wherever! You have a golden heart! You are a good friend all around! :X

- Not Tellin' McLovely Ladybug - we met in kind of a "shitty" way (Thanks IdAhO! :P ), but i am glad to call you my friend! I am SO texting you after I post this!

- Wicked - who helped me when I got the Spotlight, and also taught me a lot about point-hoaring!  You also reminded me to "pay it forward" - something I had forgotten. Thanks! And I still owe you a Stars shirt for Hammie...

- Witchie - I can't consider my day complete until I figure out who you are today!

- Splat - Your good-natured banter and sparring with me is always a highlight of my day! :)
