My landlord agreed that I would pay a $150.00 deposit to a utility department without my consent. Neither my landlord or the util co. informed me of the agreement. I didn't become aware of it until I got my first bill...which was a disconnect notice. Apparently, the deposit was due 10 days after service was placed in my name.
I paid the deposit and the first bill. My question is, do you think I should deduct part if not all of the deposit from my rent (since my landlord is the one who got me into this) or just suck it up and eat mac and cheese for the next 2 weeks (took part of the deposit from the grocery money).
Oh...and I was told that the reason for the deposit was because they couldn't verify my credit...but since my landlord set up the account and not me, she couldn't release that info and no one ever asked me for it. |
