I heard about Willow and went to meet him this morning. I have no room at the moment but wanted to give as much information as possible. I expected a decrepit old dog on his last legs. Instead I found a bright-eyed, happy old man who is full of life and laughter, raring to go and who is no where near ready to die. He is DEAF, but appears to have been deaf long enough that it doesn't bother him. He knows to look to you for information. He greeted us warmly, allowed me to handle his body and check his teeth (they are in good shape but need cleaning) and then headed for the door for a walk. His hips are not strong, but he was x-rayed by the vet who found arthritis but no dysplasia. He went for a nice walk and then wanted to go over and say hello to the pit bull who was in the exercise pen. This little guy was one of the reasons Willow is on death row but he didn't know that -- he just saw a friend he wanted to make. After they exchanged pleasantries (nice pit) he said a warm hello to a tiny Shih tzu who is getting adopted. He cried at her, hoping to get her to play but she was too busy getting treats from a volunteer. Willow politely asked for a treat, took it like a gentleman and ate it slowly with relish.

Willow has one empty run between him and the Bridge. They are full and must take in strays. They have been turning down people who want to drop off a dog to give Willow time (he's been there 3 weeks past when he should have been euthed because they love him.) With the cruelty case, they are up against the wall and Willow is the least adoptable dog there. If you have room for a senior shepherd mix who is quiet and loving but full of life, please consider Willow. He has been vetted and healthy, he is NEUTERED and tests fine with other dogs. He has not been tested with cats but chances are he is fine since he is so mellow. He is NOT doing well in the shelter and the cement floors make his old bones ache. If you have any room, please contact Lesley ASAP.

Transportation help is available. They will do anything they can to get Willow to a safe loving home or rescue. Please contact Lesley ASAP: (203) 468-3249 mailto:Tashmoo5454@cs.com?subject=Petfinder.com%20Pet%20Inquiry:%20Willow-URGENT%21%20PFId#8673013

Shepherd Mix

We are very full right now and Willow needs to find a home soon!!!

Willow is a very sweet, older soul. He is very gentle and loves to be petted. He was picked up by a good Samaritan because he was roaming in the middle of the street. He is a beautiful dog! His coat is an interesting blend of black, white and various shades of golden brown. He needs someone he can trust again, because sadly his previous owners never came looking for him. He is very hard of hearing. He doesn't have any aggression issues and is just wishing for a nice soft couch to take a nap on. If you can open your heart to Willow, please call us. Our shelter is very full right now and Willow doesn't have a lot of time.

SICK m'fer

Notes: From Missy's rescuer: After having to put a sick dog down, I was pretty much set that I was tired of going to the Pound. Well, on that same day, at night - I found Missy- not even 3 year old Dane Girl. Emaciated, HW positive, massive Phermitria, Mastitis, skinny as a bone, sweet as can be. She also has lacerations on her throat, by her ears, like somebody attacked her or wanted to cut her throat.

Missy had to be rushed to the vet's office. She could not even lift her head. She was put on IV for 3 days, hoping she will regain some strength. On the 3rd day the vet perform surgery. Missy survived.

Missy is now in recovery. She will need to gain a lot of weight before we can treat her Heartworms. Once all is done, Missy will need a home where she will start a new life.

We are asking for donations to help with Missy's care. Her vet bills are over $500, not to forget the additional $300 for the Heartworm treatment. Tax deductible donations can be made on line by going to our website: www.pawsofaustin.org. You may also contact Missy's foster mom at: zoohelotes@aol.com

I AM NEEDING FUNDS TO TRY AND KEEP JINNY ALIVE AFTER I FOUND OUT ABOUT AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD THAT MAY OR MAY NOT WORK, BUT IT IS WORTH A TRY BEFORE I SEND HER OFF TO THE BRIDGE.
ALSO IF YOU ALL REMEMBER MY YARD WAS DEVASTATED THIS SPRING BY HAVING 2 TRSACTORRS STUCK IN THE MUD...IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MOW THE LAWN NOW, AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO GET BACK TO THE HORSES WITHOUT FALLING ON YOUR FACE BECAUSE YOU FELL IN A RUTT THAT IS A FOOT DEEP...
I MYSELF AM GOING IN FOR A PARTIAL MASTECTOMY ON THURSDAY JULY 12TH...THAT KEEPS ME FAIRLY BUSY IF YOU ALL KNOW WHAT I MEAN. I AM ALSO TRYING TO GET A PREGNANT BEAGLE HERE FROM COLUMBIANA POUND IN OH. AND AM STILL TRYING TO HAVE A PLACE FOR MY HORSES TO EXERCISE.
SO PLEASE I AM BEGGING FOR YOU TO HELP OUT IN ANYWAY YOU CAN...EVEN IF IT IS JUST A DONATION MADE IN THE NAME OF THE CONTEST FUNDRAISER, LAST ANGEL WILL RECIEVE HALF OF ALL DONATIONS AND ENTRY FEES. I HAVE OVER 1100 FRIENDS ON MY LIST, CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW MUCH $5.00 USD WOULD DO FOR BOTH OUR RESCUES IF YOU ALL DONATED TO HELP OUT???

PLEASE READ this urgent message from NMHP. Everyone - the Florida Greyhound rescue world has been dealt a devastating blow this week - the Melbourne race track is closing early this season and over 300 dogs are in danger of immediate death - This terrible situation created by the Melbourne track closing is going to be bad over the next 2 or 3 weeks, but particularly in the next week. The pets waiting in line to get out of Sanford Orlando will be put down to make room for the active racers being moved from Melbourne if we don't get them out of there. And, when I say "put down", I am not saying that they will be humanely put down. There is no guarantee of that. Trainers, dog handlers, rescue groups are all working together to save these dogs. But the task is daunting and we need all the help we can get. Greyhound rescue groups are moving dogs out of FL at a phenomenal rate! If you are able to take an extra foster or a first foster, it will not be for a very long time. A week or two, most likely, until we can get the dogs vetted and arrange a ride out of here. The groups up north are very busy placing dogs and need quite a few NOW. Foster homes are needed to keep the dogs safe until they can be sent north for adoption. This is the time to act! If you've never fostered before, you will be amazed at how well these dogs fit in right off the track. We supply everything you need..a crate, leash, dog food and we'll even throw in a comfy comforter for a bed. Medications are provided for the dog. The only thing you provide is safe haven, lots of love, and assurance to a dog whose world has been ripped apart by folks who only see dollars where others see a loving, gentle creature. Greyhounds are 45 mile hour couch potatoes who love toys, napping, lounging, going for walks (no unleashed dog parks please), and did I mention the napping marathon? A fenced yard is preferred but not necessary as greyhounds are leashed trained and love to walk. If you have a cat or small dog, the groups will make sure you have a greyhound that is cat- & small-dog safe. We will not jeopardize any greyhound nor will we jeopardize any foster home and their animal family members. Please talk this over at the dinner table tonight. If you've ever thought about fostering, this would be the time to give it a try. If you are sincerely interested in helping, or if you know anyone who could consider helping out as a foster home, please have them contact Carol Becker of Gold Coast Greyhound Adoptions at vocalsinc@mac.com or have them contact me at bwmccartt@cfl.rr.com (407-760-1484, cell) and I can put them in touch with the local groups as well as the various florida groups helping out the pups. Please spread the word at church, your neighborhood, work, etc. Thanks!

AR~Smiley is Waiting To Make You Smile! Adopt Today! REPOST Angels' Care Animal Rescue, Inc.
Little Rock, AR
Angels_Care@comcast.net

Smiley is a beautiful black and white English Springer Spaniel mix with adorable black freckles on his face. The person who brought this sweet boy in said the mother was a Springer Spaniel. This handsome guy is about a year old, and he is considered a medium-sized dog.

Someone in Smiley's past may have been unkind to him because he is a little shy at first, and it takes him a while to warm up to a new person. He is not aggressive, just shy and very very sweet. When Smiley does warm up to you, he loves to be petted. And this sweet boy will even smile--hence, his name, "Smiley."

Since Smiley occasionally feels adventurous and wants to jump the fence, he will need to be adopted into a home where there is a 6' privacy fence.

Smiley tested negative for heart worms; is up-to-date on his vaccinations, including his Rabies vaccination; is on heart worm preventative; is on flea and tick preventative; and has been neutered.
