Tomorrow night PBS is airing a special about plus sized women and their lives called "All of Me" which is based on some women from Texas who are part of a Fat-Acceptance group. I wonder if it is slightly reminiscent of the Bachelor and Bachelorette style show from a few years ago called "More to Love" which entirely sensationalized the whole concept of being a bigger woman.
I have been a plus sized woman to various degrees over my lifetime. I have lost more than 80 pounds but I am always going to be a bigger woman and I deal with the usual nonsense most plus sized women face... such as how men interested in us love our shape until they get upset and then the first words out of their mouths involve trying to insult the very shape they adored previously, or when I was bigger, being asked by kids if I was pregnant, or some guys only being interested because of the fat and not because of the person I am.
I am considering watching this but wonder if I should bother or not, so please help me make up my mind:
a) specials like this just make people feel worse about themselves
b) specials like this empower people
c) it would be interesting to see how they portray the people involved
d) waste of time - don't bother
