Former Trucking Tomcat's blog: "miracles"

The testimony that I'm about to give is about my Mom. I have my own but my mom's is truly God's grace and how he shows how he can work in our lives. In the past three years my Mom has had several serious injuries and illnesses. My mom has always been in a deep walk with God all her life and has been a very spiritual woman. I can’t tell you how many times she has read the Bible through. She attended Bible study on a regular bases and had one on one meetings with our pastor to help her try to understand what God was trying to tell us. I tell you this not to impress you but to try to give you an understanding what she is like. The following is what has happened in the past 3 years. In June of2005 she was at a local store and tripped and fell, resulting in a broken hip. Was taken to the hospital and in 4 weeks was able to leave. But with the hip she could not return to her home and had to give up her car. I moved her in some senior apartments down where I live here in Murrayville. All went pretty well until February of 2006. You see my Mom had a inter ear problem and one night she went to the bathroom with out her walker and fell. She fell up against the bathroom sink and then slid down the side of it and hit the tub. This was where she started to decline physically. She was taken to the hospital and then I had her transferred to a smaller hospital where her doctor was from. She was in there a couple of weeks and was transferred to a nursing home where she was supposed to recover then come back home. My brother and I seen a small recovery but not what she should have been. In the meantime something was going on that I was not aware of at the time. On Mother’s day 2006 my family went to see and I asked how she was doing and se said pretty good except for the sore on her heal. I had no idea that it was a pressure sore and that it was getting infected. I asked the nursing staff and was told that it was being treated. Then I get a call that she might be bleeding from her colon. She was taken to the hospital and at that time we found out that her heal had turned black. The doctors lanced her heal and had to get her stable for surgery on her heal. They did save her foot but the bleeding from the colon was still a problem. Tests were run, Colonoscopy, CT, and MRI were done and they couldn’t find the cause of the bleeding. I was still in northern Indiana when the doctor calls me and say to me that she is bleeding faster then they can replace it. My brother arrives and calls our pastor and he goes and prays with my Mom and 2 hours after the prayers were said her bleeding stopped and they never found out the cause of the bleeding or why it stopped. By the time I got home she was up eating and talking with everyone. But you could tell that it took a lot out of her. Needless to say I moved her to a new nursing home and where she would get good care. Somewhere she acquired a staff infection in her heal. It took almost a year to get her heals healed up. She had little set backs but nothing major until one day they found an ulcer on the bottom of her tongue. It turned out to be oral cancer. She had about ¾ in of her tongue taken off and mad a remarkable recovery. Doctor had to put in a feeding tube but she was coping well with it. Was feeling better and gaining weight. Doctor reported that he had gotten all the cancer and that she would need to come and see him for check ups. Then on December 17 I get a call that she has fallen out of her wheelchair. Nurses were in her room to start her breathing treatment left to help other residents and came back by her room about 30 seconds later to find her on the floor. Ems was called and taken to the hospital for evaluation. Doctor ordered a CT scan on her head and neck. The x-rays showed 4 breaks on her C1 Cervical I her neck. At that time she was transferred to a level one trauma center. She was evaluated and put in a neck brace for 8 to 10 weeks. Surgery was not an option due to her health. She is back at the nursing home now and is doing as well as expected in her condition. What has astonished everyone is her moral. After spending almost 11 hours on a backboard, transferred to another hospital 40 miles away, and finally getting a room at 2:30 am and still be able to give the nurse and smile. She has been that way all through her ordeal. Go through the impossible and still be able to give a smile to someone. According to everyone in the medical profession she should not have survived the fall. That is why I’m writing about my Mom. My brother and I have said this is it three different times and she has come through with the Grace of God shining through. Not only is she an inspiration to my family but her family at the nursing home. The young people just love her and the way she has made through all her problems and still put out a smile for them. On Sunday morning Memorial Day weekend se went home to the Lord at 3:10am. May you rest in peace.
