No you can not become a vampire, nor would you want too. Real vampiiric people tend to have more problems then benefits from their needs.
1) Low energy
2) Family and relationship problems
3) Often a variety of physical and emotion problems
4) your don't get any special powers or a secret decoder ring.
These all tend to have a impact on their quality of life.
ANYONE can engage in a vampiric act on the other hand. It is possible for anyone to feed on blood, emotional, sexual or ambient eneregy, but they do NOT need the energy to maintain a normal quality of life, but they may desire it for reasons of sexual pleasure, personal satisfaction or because they get an altered state from it. Even then I can't tell you HOW to joy this, you either do or don't. Its like having a craving.
Blood fetish vampirism, blood fetishism and/or blood play (in BD/SM sense) for pleasure is a edge play area. It has some serious risks and liabilities, diease, injury (which can also lead to legal problems - civil and criminal) and social stigma. (Just try asking a date if you can cut them and drink his or her blood...).
Most of the stuff you read or see in fiction is true about vampiric people. Most of them are not even as interesting as vampir
