Paline's blog: "Contemplations"

Wow...

You know, I never really knew there were sooo many people out there with so many similarities. it makes me wonder why human society is always so destructive and barbaric. There are soooo many of us who feel the same way, think the same way, do things the same way, have the same opinions on the same topics and are passionate about the same things in life, and yet, we somehow find a way to disagree. Always! Like, I'm in college and I'm a Pre-Vet major. I have fellow students with the same concerns about animals on their minds, but there's a rift in the department between extra-curricular groups. Now how the hell does that work? We go to the same institution, we work with the SAME animals, and yet several of us have to go and be wenches about everything. It drives me NUTS! Not only that, but there are bigger issues in the world for people to be concerning themselves with, not who's in the 'better livestock group'. They're ALL livestock! The economy is singing its swan song, there are fellow Americans dying on foreign soil, the educational system is shot, and there are eleven years olds going into high security institutions because they knifed their fourth grade teacher! C'mon people! In my two and a half semesters in college, I've worked more or less solely with livestock. I've noticed that, in order for the group survival, they all work together. Sure, there's a pecking order, and some make the decisions and some follow, but, in the end, they're all one, cohesive group. They depend on one another for survival. And it's not only domestic animals either! I've also been told that humans are a social creature. As far as I can see, we're socially destructive. We join groups, gain counterparts and fellow humans, only to exploit, use, abuse and degrade them. And I'm not talking solely about companines and big-wigs that do what they want with their employees. I'm talking about every-day people. I'm always asked "Why are you always so nice? How can you always be curteous?" How? Because of the simple LACK THEREOF of simplistic manners! I've always been one to go against the grain and I find it sad that, in doing so, I'm keeping alive traditional values that were punishable by LAW if they weren't followed in years gone by. I see it esspecially in America. Our standrd of living is so high, the other countries are a bug on our windshield. Everyone else isn't as good as us. I've seen tourists get pissed off when they're corrected by a local in another country. It's so infuriating! And it's not even people who aren't considered 'American'. We treat one ANOTHER like crap too! Racism? Sexism? Homophobia? Fat people? Retarded people? The elderly? Even children? Otherkin? I mean, if things went everyone's we'd all be excluded and persecuted for everything. Nothing would get done, of course, that's assuming anything IS getting done. And don't even get me started on how we treat the very animals we depend on in this country. I mean, ignorance is bliss, but what is bliss when we can't even trust the food on our table anymore? How can society be happy when there's an entire PLANET dying all around us? Katrina? Rita? They are the products of a very pissed off water cycle because of what humans are doing. I'm not advocating world peace. When everything is at peace, that means its dead. Naturally, things must be in conflict, change, and flux, or else it'd just shudder and die. What I'm advocating for is balance; 'harmony' for those of you who have no idea what I mean. Yes, we can have a governmental system, but instead of excluding the very people it rules, why not actually USE their votes when the time comes? When someone suggests something, don't immediately ignore it because it doesn't fit your line of thinking. Make the effort to THINK about what they are saying. Sure, it still may not fit your mental matrix, but at least you gave them the curteousy of understanding where they'recoming from. If you live in the city, make an effort to take a trip to the country! Drive to a spot and then walk for a few hours, just because you can. Appreciate life instead of plugging through it to make money because you were TOLD to do that since you were a child. Appreciate nature, at least one day per season. I find that long work days, that can spill into nights, high amounts of coffee and cigarettes, and seeing too much of the same people day after day after day after day gets to a person. For a country with such a high standard of living, there sure are a lot of psychological disorders that repeat themselves in the same situations.... I don't remember what I started this blog for. i jus know I read someone else's and it got me thinking, which then cascaded into this huge long rant session about how much society is making people self destructive. Individually and collectively. This isn't going to come to a 'point', it's to make people think a little more then they're probably allowed to.....
