Ok...this just occurred to me. There is a potential gold mine here in Alaska but where it is located will affect fishing areas VITAL to region. (google Peeble Mine in Alaska) I mean literally vital to people's way of living. They depend on the foods you can harvest from the sea.
The way gold is mined is very toxic. There isn't any way you can get gold from ore without using cyanide. I've seen it on Discovery Channel.
Now...how do you weigh the needs of the few to needs of the many?
Yea, they can move to better location but who's going to move them? Their ancestors lived there since before Alaska was US territory and before the Russian occupation. Why should they suffer because the current government cannot manage their own finances?
