Blood Stains

Blood Stains (in the wilderness is the preservation of the world...) Eight legs Together they run Freedom of wilderness in their veins Two throats They raise their song Howling praise to sun and moon One mind Together they hunt For a family soon to grow One heart Unwavering love A loyalty that cannot die. Two legs crash through virgin brush Trespassers from another world Two legs with weapons of war and dreams of spilling blood... One life together they share all that this perfect world holds for them Two souls entwined into one he would die for here, she for him Snow falls cold settles in close by her side against the wind... Life-mates, together they run what humans have lost, wolves still understand... Two legs and a bottle of beer leaving down the barrel of a gun two legs has not come to hunt to feet mate and family Two legs sees this beautiful beast run carefree through the virgin snow Two legs sees nothing at all but a target to take down... Four legs runs ahead through the field look back with playful eyes at him young heart she never suspect that death looms so near... Four legs see unnatural things extend a limb toward her Too late their thunder explodes he watches her fall... Blood stains he follows her down finds her by scent of her heart Blood stains the new fallen snow she slumps to the ground Two legs could never care less ”That’s one less wolf”, they later say Two legs has blood on his hands he left her to die... Heart screams as he sees her there can’t stop her from slipping away Blood stains the ground at his feet Can’t help her as she slips away Soft wine at the back of her throat she tries to great him like before Heart screams as his family dies trapped unmade in her dying form... Blood stains his pelt as he lays down by her side against the wind... Blood stains the grey of his fur he gives her what shelter he can Heart slows still wagging her tail her life drains out into the snow One life lies broken in two he can sense her slip away... One voice rises up to the sky a solemn song of mourning for her One voice cries into the wind for the children he will never know One soul forever alone and yet he will not leave her side One life lies broken in two insides gapes a hole... Blood stains the hands of man with crimes and ignorance and greed Blood stains grow darker within no matter if you turn away Blood stains on the soul never fade for time will not erase these sins Blood stains will never come out until the end of days...

~ Kindred Spirit ~

~ Kindred Spirit ~ After the great spirit created the world He called man and wolf into council He charged them to go out to be heard To give name to all the earth's plant and animal Together they went about their task in earnest Giving name to all that their path would cross To give symbol to all, in plain and forest Making sure that none were passed or lost Task completed, they returned to the great spirit Proud of what man and wolf had accomplished All now had a name, as he had asked it With this, he told the two they were finished Kindred spirit is what he named them Told them then to part, yet live in harmony Which they did, 'till strangers came to this land Killing the wolf to make room for his family It is time we remembered this was not the plan Wolf was not a problem for tribes that were here Together we were to live, hand in hand How can we make the intruders open their ears Kindred spirits of the land we had lived Working together to keep the land good But, a breaking of the promise, we would give Where, as brothers together, we had once stood

~ I Am Wolf ~

~ I Am Wolf ~ I am wolf, I am one of a kind I have been here since ancient time Wakan Tanka Blesses me to be My kind will always run wild and free It is my nature to avoid you, I am human shy You hunt me from helicopters across the sky Then you shoot at me as I try to flee ... Why? Why does your kind wish my species to die? We wolves run together in a family pack Always guarding ourselves against attack I do not attack your home or farm I only attack when you intend wolf harm Wolf has no markets or stores for food supply We hunt the forests and where open fields lie You speak and spread your untrue words That we attack your live stock and herds Why does man wish to kill wolf by his lying? We only take lives of old, weak and already dying You hunt and kill for sport and greed We only hunt when our families have need You place animal head trophies upon your wall to make your egos walk vain and tall Wolf needs no trophies for others to see We only wish to live and preserve our family ... We mate for life and survival just as you ... We grieve for our lost ones same as you do Why can we not share a new dawn .... Let me be free to howl the moon my song Loyalty and courage shines from my eyes I am spirit of the wild that never dies I am brother wolf, asehi ... I am he I will always run the winds free ... ~ Story Of Two Wolves ~

~ Story Of Two Wolves ~ Old Grandfather was proud and wise The spirit of truth shined from his eyes Come draw your hearts near Old Grandfather's story to hear... Listen with your spirit's ear well Keep this story in heart to dwell A strong message for all hearts to see This is the Two Wolves Story... In each person's heart deep within are two wolves fighting to see who wins One wolf is good, who fights strong the other is evil and fights to do wrong Down in our spirit's soul they fight for our hearts to hold The wolves are in constant fight Each struggling with all their might Of the two wolves that dwell within you ask, which wolf will win? The answer is simple, take heed The wolf that wins is the one you feed Sometimes the wolves rip our soul apart Which wolf will rule your heart... Remember, old Grandfather was wise the spirit of truth shined from his eyes... Customs handed down from generation to generation have been the only laws to guide them. George Copway (Kah-ge-bow) Ojibwa Chief (1818-1863)

The Wolves Within...

The Wolves Within... An old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice... "Let me tell you a story." "I too, at times, have felt great hate for those who have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It's like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times. " "It is as if there are two wolves inside me; one is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way." "But...the other wolf... ah! The littlest thing will send him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all of the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing." "Sometimes it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit." The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather ?" The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, "The one I feed." A Native American tale told many times Around the Sacred Fire

The Wolf and the Sparrow

The wind whistled through the trees telling of a cold snowy night's freeze ... All of the animals had been safely prepared except for a little bird who was not spared A little sparrow had gotten lost and was caught in the unexpected frost She lay on the cold frozen ground her fragile body barely making a sound She was badly injured and could not fly then out of the shadows a wolf passed by Silently, without any sounds being heard wolf found the little injured bird ... Wolf looked at the sparrow's delicate feathers and knew she could not survive the weather He saw the sadness in sparrow's eye and knew he could not let her die ... There in the cold night's dark the little sparrow had touched wolf's heart Wolf saw the little sparrow's plight and would see her through the night As the wolf laid down close beside her the sparrow nestled warmly in his soft fur From the night sky Creator looked down at His little creatures lying on the cold ground Then Creator sent warm heavenly winds to keep warm these two caring friends ... Because the wolf's caring devotion had no end for little sparrow a miracle of healing would begin Within all the miracles ever dreamt of there's none greater than the miracle of love With their hearts and spirits bound together Wolf and little sparrow will be friends forever Whenever there's two hearts that share Miracles can happen to anyone, anywhere Barbara LaBarbera © 2005 (WolfMystic)

Last Alpha Wolf

Though wolf and his kind were here first he must now hide, suffering hunger and thirst To the wolf's heart now it all seems Freedom was only in distant dreams... All has become man's domain where very few wolves remain In Alaska the Toklet wolves found safety At the Denali Park they could run free... As most of you have read ... the last alpha wolf is dead A hunter out for the thrill made his heartless kill... The alpha male was looking for his mate who by a trapper had met her untimely fate As the alpha wolf lay dead in his tracks ... with him goes the world's last wolf pack What was in this man's cold heart when he called the wolf park to return the dead wolf's collar radio The destruction! Did he care or know? Was his hunter's heart satisfied...? Did his sinister actions fill him with pride? A Toklet wolf that had walked among man yet slaughtered on protected land...! A friendly wolf that taught his children to walk freely among men ... Teaching them to be unafraid yet with traps and bullets are they repaid ... A Toklet wolf, human friendly and tame yet a cruel heartless hunter took aim As he looked down his gun site with his cold steely eye Did he hear the last alpha wolf's cry ...? ~ Silent Paws ~

~ Silent Paws ~ His silent paws slip through the night He is a predator of great might His stealthy paws travel soft and light His prey is done with just one bite His heart knows only one fear when the two legged one is near The creature they call man Many have died by his hand Over the lands silent paws roams Open fields and forests are his home But tonight he is all alone with only soft whimpers and moans He saw his mate two days ago Where she is tonight he does not know He knows he'll find her somehow but he's beginning to worry now Longingly he looks up at the moon He must find her soon... He's worried, where can she be... she's soon to have their family His search is without end His loyal heart will never give in The night is quiet and still He looks to a near by hill... There's a familiar scent there He's close, again he sniffs the air Yes! He's found her at last His silent paws are running fast He finds an old cave den He bravely rushes in ... What does his eyes see? His mate has had their family! By their Mother all safely curled up are four little wolf pups... He lays down beside her and nuzzles close in her soft fur Glittering stars watch from above Theirs is true loyalty and love Now their story just begins A love story without end... ~ Wolf's Final Song ~

~ Wolf's Final Song ~ He lost his loyal mate by hands of the creature they call man ... Pain cuts through him like a knife for the mate he had taken for life ... His sorrowful song fills the night As he howls at the moon's light ... His lone heart's soulful cries Lingers on the wind then dies His empty stomach gives a growl he must begin his nightly prowl His silent paws are tired and weak As he tries to cross an icy creek Wolf His hunger is growing strong but in the wind something is wrong Suddenly his yelps fill the air ... He had not seen the trap lying there He fights with teeth and front paws trying to loosen it's steely jaws A man made trap of cruelest intent It was surely by the devil hell sent Wolf His poor half starved body struggling helplessly to be free but within these jaws of death He will soon draw his last breath His soft whimpers are the only sound as his dying body lies on the ground His life's blood in a steady flow runs red across a cold white snow Beneath an icy snow burdened tree Embracing death ... he still cried to be free As his weakened cries met the dawn These cries were wolf's final song ... ~ A Wolf Story ~

~ A Wolf Story ~ Night is falling... A lone wolf is calling He's telling a story he wants you to know about St. Francis and a wolf long ago... Long ago a village lived in fear because a killer wolf was near... The town's people were filled with fright and turned to St. Francis with their plight St. Francis bravely searched around until finally the wolf was found... St. Francis knowing the wolf's soul was lost Blessed brother wolf with the sign of the Cross The towns people stood with awe among them as St. Francis called the wolf to him He beckoned with love and the wolf came Like a lamb the wolf was so tame... The wolf spoke as he drew near He said he had killed out of fear St. Francis told him to not be afraid That by God's love were all creatures made The villagers could not believe what they saw as the wolf reached forth his front paw... St. Francis took the wolf's paw in his hand As he spoke, the wolf could understand St. Francis said, "killing is not God's will" and the wolf promised never again to kill A given oath with paw and hand shake An oath the wolf would never break Heavenly Angels smiled from above as the wolf and all were filled with love The wolf took a mate and settled down and was loved by everyone in town... The wolf was a symbol of love and peace a miracle ever filling the hearts of each... Years later when the old wolf died Everyone in the village cried... This is wolf's story, my friend With God, possibilities have no end and with faith and love miracles begin...
