There was another birthday party,
To which I was obliged to go,
The same old routine,
They’re all just for show.
I sat there out of place,
Worried what people would think,
Playing the doting boyfriend,
Buying all the drinks.
The small talk occupied us,
As the drinks they did flow
And the chemically enhanced happiness
Soon began to show.
To the dance floor I went,
Intoxicated and amused
To dance with complete strangers
Who all looked a bit bemused
I can dance well when I’m drunk,
That’s what I say,
Although that isn’t always the consensus,
When soba the next day
There was a pretty girl
Bubbly and light,
Once she’d caught my eye,
She was the only thing in sight.
To the song ‘Happy’ we continued
With constant eye contact
Holding her in my arms,
Mesmerised by the track
In circles we turned,
As did her flowing curly hair,
As for the room around us,
That had become a complete blur.
The dance floor had cleared,
We had caused outrage,
To the toilets she ran
As I sheepishly returned from the stage
From sight she had gone,
But in my mind she remained
I must find out about this girl,
As the story I relayed.
Who would have thought?
From such a chance meet,
That girl with which I danced
Would turn out to be my SOUL MATE!
