Let me preface this by saying I LOVE the White Stripes. I have everything Jack White touchs, and love it. (check out the Loretta Lynn album he produced, something Rose, phenenemal)
So I was really looking forward to this CD, and for once, it delivered.
Preliminary reviews, and Jack White, said that they were heading in a slightly different direction, which always scares me, but I like it. The songs arent as quick as in the past, for the most part, but despite that I enjoyed it. They don't plod, thats for sure.
My favorite part of the Stripes is Meg White's drumming. Its basic, and crisp, and I think that I could fill in for her with a little practice. On this cd, she's incredible. Not to mention, wiht minimal instruments usedshe's in the mix very much, and gets a huge drum sound.
Jack White's guitar playing is great, and they are really tight.
On this album, he's playing an organ too. I love organs, not synthesizers, so this is right up my alley.
Overall, good songs, good pace, fun lyrics, and an evolution of their sound, but still enough there that its unmistakeable.
I give it a solid 9 out of 10
