the following is a draft brief for the virtual world for the project, its a rough outline and is up for much discussion and a few changes
DRAFT BRIEF
IMMORTAL EGOS’ VIRTUAL WORLD
To design an underground virtual world where the immortal egos can play with their friends.
This world should have eight underground levels and one entrance level
Access to the levels below should be achieved using an elevator.
Each level should have an entrance and doorway separate from the elevator
Each level will be identified using an individual immortal ego theme
Each level will have multiple rooms - 3 rooms each to begin with.
The site will have a large interactive component and should be designed with this in mind.
It is conceived that this world be based on Dante’s Inferno and the Nine Worlds from Norse Mythology and have nine levels, eight below ground and one above/ or entry portal.
It would be useful to design the site with World of Warcraft in mind.
The 9 levels are:
Level 1 - Willie the Freak - entrance
Level 2 - Sadistic Ophelia - art gallery and café
Level 3 - Sensual Slaughter - cinema/theatre
Level 4 - Daughter of Hell - night club/music venue
Level 5 - Fienderella - hotel
Level 6 - Red Bleeder - the scary bird experience
Level 7 - Stone Thrower - shopping
Level 8 - Reptiliana - to be confirmed
Level 9 - Shock Tactik - private members club
Technical Points
Cinema
Will require a prominent video player, large example images, and clear search functions, is more appealing and useful than a site that buries its video deep within its low level pages.
Video on Demand: programmes would either be watched live (via streaming) through a branded video player, or recorded onto computers or mobile devices (via download).
UGC: the site should also have a function for video uploading – UGC (User Generated Content) from individuals or organisations. This would need some kind of moderation procedures.
Branding: the site would need to be clearly branded as Immortal Egos, conforming to agreed branding principles and colours, but it would be designed from the outset as a virtual world site.
User Interaction: it should be possible to encourage viewers to make comments and give a rating score to the various site components.
Search: the site would need to include a sophisticated search function – where users can search either by typing a word into a search box, or by selecting categories from menus. The levels would be carefully tagged, so that each activity was linked to key words or phrases.
