What We Believe, We Manifest… "Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you shall say to the mountain, 'Take up and cast thyself into the sea' and it shall be done." Matthew 21:21 There are many superstitions surrounding spiritual beliefs. Our spiritual beliefs and superstitions, if we truly believe in them, will become reality. Everything is a dual-edged sword, good can be bad, bad can be good. Our intent, belief, and faith are what determine what will be. I have met people who believe we should not do spiritual work at night because that is the time when the negative spirits are most active. They say not to do a pipe ceremony or go into a sweat lodge after dark. I believe that doing spiritual work at night and working with Grandmother moon is very powerful. I like to do ceremonies to gain vision and teachings when the moon is gaining and do ceremonies to give away healing when Grandmother moon is full and beginning to give away her medicine. Some believe that when we are in the sweat lodge and there is more than one drum playing, if one of the drums is off beat, it could cause someone in the lodge to have their heart go off beat. If they truly believe that, it will happen. If the person drumming off beat has pure intentions and is giving their best and someone's heartbeat goes off, it is not the fault of that person. Fault would lay with those in the lodge who truly believed that that would happen. Some say an owl feather should not be used in ceremony, because they believe owl is a sign of death. Others believe that owl is a sign of wisdom and is good for doing dream medicine work. I believe that all things made by Creator are sacred. If owl is trying to warn you about death, it does not make owl bad or negative. All signs of nature are Creator trying to speak to us, and are very sacred. We must be very careful about what we believe and where we put our faith. It is the true intention in our hearts that Creator will understand. One cannot look at another and judge them based on a superstition; for by doing so, their belief may manifest the superstition. If we see someone doing something that we have a superstition about, or feel is not right, then we should ask that person to explain his or her intent. By understanding their intent, we are in a better position to know how to respond. It is not our place to judge. No one can see into the heart of another and know the intent that is there. Only that person and Creator knows what is in their heart. What we give, is what we will get. What we sow, we will reap. May Creator guide us with light and love and open our hearts to understanding.
