So this morning I was driving to work in my neighborhood when I drove up to an 18 month old boy barefoot in the middle of the busy road. One car had alread driven by honking at him. I got out and picked him up out of the road. A woman in a car behind me stopped and called the police... after a few minutes we figured out that he came out of a house which turned out to be his DAYCARE!! The lady claimed he was her grandson but that was clearly not true... Long story short... Child protective services was called but the police officer said that it is unlikely any charges would be made because the house was spotless.
My question is... if a child is found barefoot in the middle of the road while in a daycares custody should that be an automatic child neglect charge/go on the daycares record or does it depend on circumstances? My feeling is that the child either wasn't being watched or that the doors should have had an alarm to let the caretaker know the kids were opening doors.. Just wondering what others thought.
And just because a house is clean doesn't mean there is good childcare going on... duh! |
