This video came to me in my bulletins today and I am absolutely incensed. I am going to get on my soapbox for a moment because the time has come for a change. The founding fathers were more than ingenious in their formulation of our justice system, but as visionary as they were, there is no way they could have envisioned the insanity of today's society. In fact, this is the very argument being made against the provisions of the 2nd amendment, that no one could have forseen AK-47's, Mac 10's, Uzi's etc., and therefore it needs revision.
Further, seeing such tragedy only reinforces my disdain for an "altruistic" vision of a supreme being. If God were love then it would be the criminal responsible for this abomination laying in a hospital bed instead of this sweet child. The video asks what is wrong with our justice system and that is the heart of the problem. We operate under a "criminal" justice system, and I for one am damn tired of it's fallacies and failures. Since God is apparently asleep at the switch, or worse, completely apathetic, I am ready for a new system, a "victim's" justice system, whereby the consequences of such heinous behavior would be so dire as to actually become a deterrent.
While I have no prayers to offer this innocent or his family, I am more than willing and able to devise punishment not only befitting of this crime, but that will set a devastatingly horrifying example of what to expect for actions such as these. I have spent years trying to calm "the beast within", so to speak, but the person or persons responsible for the suffering of this child and his family have provoked that long suppressed beast in a way I thought virtually removed. Call it revenge if you will, I call it justice.
"Vengeance is mine", sayeth the Lord. Well the Lord can have all the vengeance, I want justice, NOW, not in some "afterlife". Nothing can be done to undo this travesty, but unless we revamp our "justice system" more are destined to suffer.
Justice for this child, justice for his family, justice for the common good.
