I am sitting here typing this blog in total tears.
I just received a call from my niece about her wedding. I can't believe my babygirl is getting married. Anyway, she was asking me if her grandgather,my dad, could wear a white Marine Corp jacket to her wedding. I told her no because he was a NCO. That it was Dress Blues for him.
Well she puts her soon to be husband on the phone and I was trying to tell him about the sword I had gotten him for Christmas to go with his Blues and all he medals and ribbons he has. Well as I am trying to tell him this he was talking about wether I could walk into the plaCe where they are having the wedding. I told him I could. That the only problem would be if we had to park far away and had to walk to the place. If anyone is from Houston they will know what I am talking about.
So then he gets on the subject about my dad being called out by any Military members of his family if my dad didn't have everything right on his Dress Blues. WTF was that all about. My dad spent 41 years in the Corp. He fought in Korea. He is one of he Frozen Chosin. The last living one in Texas. I told him I really wanted dad to wear them because my dad is 77. He hates taking pictures. SO I knew that it would prob be the only chance we would have of getting any kind of photo's of him in them. To him it is like pulling teeth. Don't know why. Then this guy went on to say that it was all about what I wanted. He said it was all about me me me. Dammit I am fucking proud of my dad. He is my hero.
I told him I wanted to take pics of us when we were in VIrginia for the dedication of the National Marine Corp Museum last November. And he said why didn't you. SO I started to tell him #1 it was way too hot... #2 we found out that only the active duty Marine's and those being honored and the Marine Corp band were to wear Blues. And one of the main reason's was I could not walk the half mile to the museum anyway.
All of a sudden he comes out with the reason why I didn' have the pictures taken was because I was too cheap and didn't want to pay for them. Cheap was the last thing I was on this trip.
Now I am sitting here in tears. And wondering after all he just said should I even go. Because after all that I feel more like an embarrassment than i do an aunt.
