wireman's blog: "what is fast?"

created on 10/20/2006  |  http://fubar.com/what-is-fast/b15888
YEAA im moved in to new pad and its just next door to the hayward fault less than a 1/2 mile so things could get moving quickly. So what is fast? one of the fastest things i know about (other than rumors spreading)spins once around in 1.6 thousandths of a second that is fast in my book.(so 0.00016 into 1 second times 60 = RPM or 37500 RPM)if my top fuel dragster motor turned 37.5k rpm i'd have fastest time in 1/4 mile afters i was scraped off drivers seat. most things i can touch would spin apart at that speed just too many g's to hold together. now say the item spinning at 37.5k rpm was big would it still spin apart? now if really big say 10 miles in diameter with mass equal to earth and still spin apart prob would or would not last long. ok we increase3 the mass to say equal to 1.5 of our suns mass still 10 mi.dia. that would be dense matter then spinning at 37.5k rpm it may hold together then. or would it? well answer to this can be found in space it the black widow pulsar a neutron star and it still kicking after a few hundred million years i sure hope I do as well. http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/03_releases/press_022703.html wire
