Vancouver WA police shot and killed a 31 yo man last night. This is the third similar police shooting this year.
A little background on this incident. The police were responding to an incident where the man had just set his apartment on fire. He was standing in the parking lot holding a pistol on a woman in a car. When police ordered him to put the weapon down, he turned and pointed it at the police. He was subsequently shot and killed.
The kicker, the gun was a replica air pistol. Police may not have been able to see that at night, but the man with the air pistol knew it. This is the third incident this year. In another, a 14 yo boy was playing at night in a vacant lot with a replica rifle. When police ordered him to drop the weapon, he turned and pointed it at them. He too died.
So I'm asking, What the hell could these ppl be thinking, pointing fake weapons at police at night time rather than drop the weapon and wait for police to see that the weapon is relatively harmless?
