I just need to vent about this for a minute. I also should state that weather or not it's any of your business, I am not on welfare. I do however have an opinion about it because my tax money is what helps fund it.
It's not that I think there is anything bad about welfare in general, I just think that it needs to be reexamined.
As far as I know, when it was started it was to HELP people and there was a limit as to how long you could be on it. Now, it could be like that in other states, but where I'm from...it's not like that now.
There are plenty of people who actually need help. They don't need to get things for free, just help. I know of one person that had a job but couldn't really afford doctor bills, enough groceries to last, and other things that were NEEDED. They were riding the bus or getting rides to and from work because there was no money for a car.
They tried to get a medical card to help cover some of her doctor visits, food stamps to help get a little food. They did not qualify. Then they were told that there was a program that was offered by the welfare office that would HELP them get a car. So they marched down there and asked for help. They could pay some for a cheap car, but just not all of it. They didn't want one even from a car lot, one in the paper would be fine for them.
Have any idea what they were told? They were asked if they got a check. They said that they received a pay check from their job, not any other check. The welfare would not help them. They meant if they got a check from the state.
After some research on our welfare system I found out that if you do NOTHING but pop out kids, you get EVERYTHING given to you. They will pay for you to go to school, they will pay for you to get a car, they will give you foodstamps for food, they will give you so much money a month to pay rent, they will give you so much money to get clothes/furniture/appliances, they will pay your bills, and they will give you a medical card so you can go to the doctor and make sure you are feeling well. You name it, they do it. There is also no limit as to how long you can be on this "program".
Like I said, I don't see anything wrong with welfare, or the thought of it I just think that it should be to help the people that actually do something with their life. While talking about this with my Mom she asked me what is my opinion on people who lose their jobs or people on disability. People with disability can not help it. It's not like they want to be disabled. They should get as much help as needed. As for people who lose their jobs......that depends. I think if a person is fired, no. If they are laid off or their company closes..yes. But not long term...give them a limit. Let them get help for a month or two after their layoff to find a job and get a paycheck.
Just seems to me that the welfare program makes it too easy for people to do nothing.
Sorry for the wall of words, just needed to get that out.
Carry on. <3
