My career, in pictures

This is too big for the fine folks at CherryTap, so I linked it from my personal page. If you feel the need to rate or comment on it, it's also in my stash.

Mon Cheri
This is my Cheri. She means so much to me. We can get through anything together, but we do it in our own unique little way. Take a few minutes to check out her
profile and help her level up.

I am originally from northern New York State (not UP-state, that's the southern half). My career has been nearly 21 years active duty in the United States Navy, and I am a Chief Petty Officer. I have served aboard 3 ships and deployed 6 times. Some of the countries I visited on deployment are: England, Scotland, France, Spain, Italy and Greece. My sailing has taken me across the Arctic Circle twice and through the Suez Canal twice.

I am divorced more than once, the last one almost 3 years ago. I never had a real "wife" who was a real partner. Each one, including women I dated inbetween is its own story.

I also have no children of my own....(maybe it's a good thing when you read the next few paragraphs). So, when I come back from deployment, I usually wait for all the excitement on the pier to go away so I can walk to my car by myself. The Navy does so much more for married Sailors (including paying them more) when they come back from deployment that nobody notices the single ones with nobody waiting for them on the pier. I have been fighting for equality in that respect but it always falls upon deaf ears.

I happen to be a Christian but I don't wear it on my sleeve. You'll never see me force it down anyone's throat, but I will quietly pray for others, including enemies, agnostics, non-believers, pagans, wiccans and even athiests.

On the political spectrum, I'm better described as a Conservative than a Republican. Republicans are closer most of the time to my political beliefs. I strongly am pro-choice, and I pray that any woman or young girl facing the choice of taking the life of an unborn make the right decision, and not use it as a last minute birth control. I am strongly against anyone who attacks an abortion clinic or people who work there. I'm also pro-choice when it comes to self defense. Some prefer baseball bats, some prefer an attack dog, some prefer firearms, and some prefer many of the above. I'm pro-choice when it comes to education and I support the voucher system so less fortunate people can afford to send their children to schools they cannot afford.

I have a neurological condition not much different from Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gherig's Disease), Multiple Sclerosis or Cerebral Palsy. The condition is much rarer than those and it only affects my legs. I walk with definite limp, and I get asked about my "war injury" all the time. They can't believe that I can deploy on a Navy ship, but I have better balance on the high seas than most. I walk a little slower and I cannot run. Basically, my leg muscles do not relax on their own. It's not like Parkinson's because my legs don't shake. One interesting thing about it is that the muscle tone in my legs is that of a long distance runner. Because of this, I can exercize using an eliptical and am a good bicyclist. The US Navy will be implementing the eliptical as an alternative form of cardio endurance testing for the next physical readiness test in the spring of 2007, which will allow me to take and pass the entire test, not just the pushups and situps. It used to be a 1.5 mile run or 500 yard swim, neither of which I can do.

The one thing I will not do is "politicize" my condition. I don't know if it's right to call it a disease or illness, but either way, there's no cure known. Some say I should support stem cell research, and I do, just not the embryonic kind. Adult stem cell research has already proven successful while embryonic has not. So, you will never see me campaining for a politician just because they support a certain kind research for a cure.

I do not have a single support ribbon on my car. I do not believe in them. Some will say that if you don't support their "cause", you must oppose it.....take for instance, the whole embryonic stem cell research is supposed to be in search of a cure for something. It could be said that if I don't support embronic stem cell research, I don't just oppose it, I actually WANT people to never get healed or cured and they should stay disabled. Putting some magnet on my car will not cure one single person of any form of cancer, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, neurological injury disorder, autism nor will it save a single unborn child from being aborted.

I also do not have a handicap parking permit, even though I walk slower with a more pronounced limp than many I see getting out of cars with those permits. I bite my tongue when I want to say, "What's it like to have a medical miracle work so well? I sure hope they find one for me." Sure it gets my goat to see them leave the handicapped person in the car (or at home) while they do their shopping, but so many times, there are very handicapped people who really need those parking spots and can't find one because they are being used by people abusing the privelege.

When it comes to religion, I try to understand all that I can, and go into it with an open mind. I believe in a Creator, an only Begotten Son, and the Holy Spirit. I have a great respect for Judiasm simply because it was the primary foundation for Christianity. I attend a modernistic contemporary Church where there is a rock band instead of an organist. I prefer it to a liturgical service, but I understand their origins and purpos to keep Christianity alive in the middle ages. I have some respect even for denominations I do not follow, including Jehovah's Witness, Amish, Quaker, Shaker and Latter Day Saints. Some people will slam a door shut when a Jehovah's Witness or Latter Day Saint's missionary comes to the door, but I will at least talk to them. I have heard some so-called Christians saying that you are to not only not let them into your home, you are to send them away, not wish them well and use Galatians 1:3 and the 3rd Letter of John as references.

I do not wish harmful things to even the people who have hurt me the most. My last wife for instance did things that some men would have killed her in cold blood over. If I were to do something like that, it would put her closer to God in Heaven while I still stay on earth in misery. It would be better for her to live with the guilt she brough upon herself and what it's doing to the children she's failing at raising. Despite what she did to me, I am a better person now, better off......EVEN THO.

I take life as it comes, listen to all kinds of radio stations, including talk, classic rock and country. When it comes to talk radio, I do listen occasionally to liberal talk including National Public Radio, but that's so I know what people who are misinformed are hearing and believing.

Even though Rosie O'Donell made ravenous comments to Tom Sellek, and said that radical Christianity is just as dangerous as radical Islam, I prayed for her right away.

I believe prayer, respect and worship should only be to a spiritual being. I do not understand, nor will I try to understand the fascination of worship and prayer to a rock, a tree, some water or the earth as a whole. I also do not openly pray out loud so as to boast about how religious I am. I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve the right to be able to worship, but I also believe in the Dispensation of Grace through the Holy Spirit.

When it comes to these online sites, about all I do is act voyeuristic. If I see a cute face, I'll look at a profile, rate it a 10, rate some pictures as 10's and leave one with a comment of "Charming......................................." I call it a "drive-by" comment because it's all I do.

Ok, now that I have all of that out there, I may not get as many friends, or fans....in fact I may lose some who do not agree with me. I can have non-Christian friends, and non-Conservative friends......can you have a Christian Conservative friend? I hope so.

My score on The LONG Scientific Personality Test:

ISTJ - The Inspector

(You scored 18% I to E, 89% N to S, 71% F to T, and 15% J to P!)

Your type is known as the inspector, and the single word that describes your is superdependable. You also belong to the larger group of guardians. You look carefully at the people and institutions around you and notice every last detail. You feel it is up to you to make sure those around you uphold certain standards of attitude and conduct. You are down to earth, with a distaste for fanciful things. You prefer things practical to new-fangled. Your word is your bond. You have no problem with detail. You share your type with 10% of the population.
As a romantic partner, you are dependable and predictable. You usually like things done in very specific ways. You tend to appreciate tradition, and you work hard to achieve goals. You have trouble sharing your feelings, though. In your eagerness to be organized and productive, you can also be unwilling to examine or embrace alternative points of view. You like to be appreciated for your practical contributions, your common sense, and the efforts you make to keep your life on track. You like to be thanked often, both informally and formally and are most likely to be upset when your partner forgets a tradition you hold dear, such as an anniversary.

I'm quite a good cook, and I get my inspiration from Mr. Food. This is because everything he makes is incredibly easy, low cost, not fattening, and ooooh it's so good.

I also do some gardening. I try to have something blooming every month except December and January. The roses I bring inside sometimes boom in February. Crocus blooms from mid February to late March. Purple first, them yellow, then white. I have hundreds of purple, and only a few yellow or white. Hyacinth blooms next with the same order. I have some of each. In the back yard there are a couple daffodils. Then it's tulips, but I have only a couple. At my old house I grew hundreds. From late April all the way until mid November the Roses bloom, and there's always one or two varieties, and I have 13 this year. There are a few azaleas which will bloom from May until July, sometimes later. In the back yard, I have some burgundy ones. Also in mid summer is the peonys but they're in the back yard. Then in late summer it's the lavender. The previous homeowner planted a lot of them. There are also some daylilies both in front and in back.

This year I'm growing some berries. Blueberries and black raspberries. Also some herbs.
