What are you waiting for?

I wasn't in the city when the bomb went off.  I was far enough away not to be effected by it's force.  But I was certainly close enough to watch the flash that lit up the horizon like a sunrise on a warm spring morning.  It looked beautiful.  I felt the ground shake.  It was like a very weak earthquake, it would have gone unnoticed if it weren't for the flash of light and the boom of what sounded like thunder in the distance.  People all around me then began to show concern, almost panic.

At the time I was on my way to meet with my employer.  I stopped near the city center market in Moscow.  I had to stop there.  Had to calm my nerves.  A few minuted before I stopped I got into it a brief argument with the local police over a pocket knife I had that was a little longer than legally allowed in Russia.  The police confiscated my knife and let me go with only a verbal warning, I was fine with that.  After the day I just had they could do whatever they wanted as long as it meant that I could walk away from it free and clear.  I got plenty of knives anyway.

Ever since most governments on Earth declared any firearms illegal in the hands of citizens security has been tight everywhere, even a small knife caused a stir.  Only the military and police were allowed to carry a gun, or a blade longer than four inches.  The Americans fell into another civil war as a result of this golbal aggreement to banish all guns.  The abolishment of their second amendment came as a shock, especially to the gun-carrying public in the southern and midwestern states. When the law was put into effect, the Enforcers went door to door to collect any illegal weapons.  The people who had weapons were fined $100 for the first three months, after that grace period the penalty went up to a $500 fine and a year or more in prison.  Some people who owned guns gave them up peacefully.  Others opened fire against the Enforcers, eventually banded together, and have become the main government resistance movement in America and had declared independence as The People's Republic of American Arms.

It was just minutes after the explosion that every television set in every window was showing news reports of an explosion in St. Petersburg.  I stood and watched one such television.  It was in front of a small cafe with a candy shop next door.  The children were still playing and laughing because they didn't know, didn't understande what was happening.  A small crowd began to gather around me, around the T.V.  Some women began to weap and sob.  Some men began to discuss who could've been responsible and what should be done about it.  Others imediately turned away and left running, probably to their homes.  I could have watched all day long to see the chaos unfolding throughout the world, but I had a metting to get to...and I was running late.
