when you think about it, there are a lot of really awesome songs by bands that have been overlooked. For example, take Twisted Sister, Everyone knows "We're Not Gonna Take It" right? But on the album that song was on there were several songs that kicked serious ass but were underplayed. "Stay Hunger" the title track, is an amazing song. it has an awesome double bass drum part with a latin shuffle on the ride cymbal. It's fast and edgy. It also has an amazing guitar solo.
Another prime example is Van Halen. They had so many popular songs, but they had more that were incredible but also overlooked. Take "Hot for Teacher" That song has a double bass jazz drum pattern, i don't even know how Alex did it. The song didn't do so well because of the weird way it was sung.
On the other hand, there were several bands that were overlooked entirely. The Ramones are a great example. The never even made it to the top 40, but every one of there songs was awesome. Their most popular song, "Do You Remember Rock-N-Roll Radio" was number 44 on the charts, so close, yet so far! The Ramones did "Blitzkrieg Bop" the most well-known, unknown song ever. Everyone knows the song, but no one knows who did it.
Iron Maiden is another one, They are probably the most popular band with virtually zero radio airtime. Every song they do blows my mind. Bruce Dickinson is one of the best vocalists i've ever heard! But because of their "graphic" album art, they were kept out of the mainstream.
