What are you waiting for?

Friends and family,

We've come together today to say goodbye.  We come together to celebrate a life. And we have also come to honor Charlene Brantley in her death. She was a wonderful wife, a loving mother, a fantastic aunt, a great sister-in-law, and a  very very good friend.  Charlene was irreplaceable.  But the problem with being irreplaceable is that when you're gone, nothing can quite fill that void of your absence.  But knowing Charlene and the impact that she had on each of our lives,  we can honestly say, we wouldn't trade anyone else for her.  The problems with her health that she had the last several years did not stop Charlene from enjoying life and  living it to the full.  But there came a point last week, where she had peace about letting go.  Knowing she had peace about it gives me peace as well.  Charlene said goodbye because she was ready to say goodbye.  And we're here today to say goodbye even though we may not feel like we're ready.  Because our hearts are broken.  There's a scripture that says the Lord is near to the brokenhearted.  When I suffer loss in my life, when I lose a precious loved one like Charlene, it usually affects me in two distinct ways.  As a Christian,  I'm drawn back to make sure my relationship with God is okay.  Secondly, it causes me to reflect on my relationships with my friends and my family.  It's a reminder that life is short,  that life is precious, and we don't know how much time each of us has left. So it becomes a reminder to cherish each moment, even the ones that we think are little moments, they become very important in hindsight.  We're drawn back to the very things that were important to Charlene: which is our family, our dear friends, and choosing to enjoy the time that we have with one another. Because Charlene touched so many lives,  many lives will forever be changed.  Things are going to change. We are going to change. But we've gathered here to say that one thing will never change, Charlene.  We will always love you and we will never, ever forget you.
