Sometimes you just have to pull the release valve... if you don't, you're just going to internally combust... that is what kind of day today became. Today was the second day I've been back to work since my week and a half off... I knew Thursday I was in for a handful today; being that my email wouldn't pull up all day correctly and I had over 400 emails to plow through and deal with... today was attempt two (and I am still not through all of them).
I work as a quality supervisor in a call center.. the job is fast paced and stressful.. Sunday used to be my slow day, but I knew after vacation that was changing, just wasn't sure just how big of a change it would be. My eyes were opened as I dealt with issue after issue from a new line group that opened under me. New agents on the floor, fresh out of training with their ears wet and attitudes intact.
The day began with the electricity going off briefly and got progressively better....
Around 1pm today I was notified that one of these fresh ones was on the floor yelling at the caller. A young inner city boy with no customer service skills was bumbling his way through his order. After two seconds of monitoring him remote I requested that he be brought back to talk to me. He sat down with a chip on his shoulder and began accusing me of discrimination. In frustration I responded that I never met him before, why would I single him out? He said I put him under a microscope.. I came back with, your yelling on the floor brought you under my microscope and we went round for a bit until I laid it firmly on the table and told him I had chosen the kinder of two options... speaking to him.. the other, walking him out the door and if he wanted to remain employed he'd listen to what I had to say. I played his call and eventually after much blame and more argument he calmed down and promised he'd do his job. I told him good, because this was his only shot (only being employed one week, being on the hot seat with me is not cool at all, because now, I said, I'm watching you.)
The rest of the day at work went along similar lines.
I fled to my car at 4 for relief... when I turned the key to back out, I discovered that I needed a man's strength to turn my steering wheel.. wonderful.. the power steering went... I left anyway..
On the interstate, I turned on the AC... hot air... what next?
I made it 40 minutes to the next town from me...calling my son to meet me at Auto Zone... he came and one look gave him the bad news.. my belt, that I was hoping was the problem was fine.. my harmonic balance was completely sheared off...
I called AAA.. no truck until 10:30 pm would be coming.. but they'd come and get my keys and have me sign paperwork... an hour later I was on my way to eat (there was nothing at work in the machine for lunch)... After McDonald's, we were driving to pick up Alpha Dog, I wanted my son to see it.. I picked up my drink and the cup sprung a cool leak all over my white shirt and jeans, as well as the seat of his Grand Am.... well, clothes are in the wash... I can use his work car for work tomorrow... I figure at this point my luck will begin to turn... *smile... thanks for listening to my rant... I refuse to say "I've had a bad day"...
Looking for another car....wish me luck...
