Good Morning and happy Tuesday to you. I am not sure if this has happened to anyone else before and if so I am not sure what to do but I am open for suggestions. The neighbor called and said he seen our dog Lizard roaming around in his horse pasture during the day. I said well she is right here now. He mentioned he did not mind her running on his property but was worried for her safety, and knew how close we were to her. He did not want her to be hit by traffic do to the fact cars travel our road at a high rate of speed. I thanked him and we both wished one another a good evening. Well soon after I got off the phone I mentioned the fact to the girls and asked if Lizard ran away when you took her outside today? They both said no, actually they let her out on the deck before the rain and when they heard the thunder they allowed her back in. See, off our deck I fenced in an area for her to run and do her duties…not sure what her duties are but she always finds time to relieve herself while doing them. So again both said no Lizard was not out long enough to be able to run down to the O’Leary’s place anyway. So all was forgot, this was about 6:15 PM when we decided that Mr. O’Leary was off his rocker…About 6:45 PM the phone rings again this time it’s the Coloma Township Police Department. A complaint was filed about our dog (Lizard) busting into a fenced area where a Neighbor I was not at all familiar with called and claimed our dog killed two of his chickens… Ok, now this was getting weird. I said I work during the day and both my daughters were off work and explained there is no way she could have done that she lives with cats and if she had a bad bone in her we would be missing some cats! The Officer said, regardless they needed to come over and make sure she was licensed and check her and the yard for… get this Chicken feathers…. I said ok, I could not stop them and would be glad to help. I no sooner hung up the phone and yelled to the girls who had been on the computer and X-Box upstairs to come down here, something is fishy… I said are you two sure Lizzy did not get away? They both almost simultaneously said “Dad she could not have done that…” and no sooner did we all get done with that conversations Lizard strolled in from the front room and I noticed blood underneath her collar…now I am freaking out… and pointed to the area I just noticed and said Mandy! Are you sure? We all bent down and sure enough it was blood… So we all got coats on and took lizard out with us, thinking perhaps she would lead us to her haul, so to speak…It was sprinkling just a tad, and while we were looking out in the back yard.. it is around 7:15 PM and still light out, the Coloma Township squad car arrives and behind that a Berrien County Animal control vehicle, pulls in… My heart sunk… how could this loving family dog all of a sudden in one day turn into a wolf and make the neighbors un-easy… well no longer did that thought appear in my head did Lizard take off towards the two approaching cars… The animal control officer pulled out a long like poker stick and had his hand on his weapon… oh this was way out of control, I could not stop Lizard and she ran right up to him shackles raised, I thought if she mad the wrong move it was her last… as a last ditch effort I called her again and this time she ran back to me. At which time the Township officer said she will have to be harnessed or put into the house while they check the grounds…and she may need to be sedated while they do I guess what is a doggy DNA test… this now has turned into CSI- Animal version, I never thought I needed depends, but felt if I had been wearing some they may have came into good use…So we get Liz in the garage and she is carrying on like never before…Now my thoughts go from someone is lying here…the girls might know something and are just afraid to come clean…but now is not the time to question them. The officers both had big beam lights, somewhat light Deer shining lights, and not more then a few minutes into the search it is about 7:30 PM did the township officer make a find and said over here, we were around the other side of the house near the south deck where Lizard normally is put out… and he said I found feathers… and then he says wait!... There is something else…as we walk up he is on his radio asking for a 10-87 or something like that and he also said alert the Grand Rapids Crime Lab, send down well that part I could not understand it was something and I did not think that something had anything to do with Chicken killing… Right then I saw it… and my heart sunk… I told the girls go inside, and get Lizard under control, her barking was driving me nuts… let alone it sounded like she had turned rabid… I turned back to the officer and looked down to see what appeared to be a child’s hand…bloody… and at this point… you mind goes numb…I did not know what was coming and had no answer.. this hand had been attached to someone and that someone had to be close… the officer once again got on his radio… and since his back was turned to me was saying something and he turned to me real quick and he said I will need you in my eye sight at all times until my backup arrives… it’s wet, it’s semi cold, I have no clue what to think other then is this a dream… am I being accused of something? I then hear the sirens of on coming vehicles and know this is going to be a night I will never forget, nor will I be able to sleep… and Hopefully we are not accused… well to make a long story short… I am at work today so everything worked out to our favor… Lizard is home with us still, and apparently this is what took place… the Officer turned to me and said, “April Fools” this had all been a crock of doggy do just like what I was trying to feed you too… Happy Day and may you April first be a fun one now that you know Lizard isn’t a Chicken killer… and that Little girl… well she wont turn up either…LOL
