Right now, the company is trying out tiered internet pricing in Beaumont, Texas in order to determine whether or not said pricing will be successful in other markets. The plan is to ultimately charge heavy internet users more than other subscribers instead of the current flat rate for all users. Will tiered internet pricing benefit or gouge customers?
They say pricing will free up bandwidth. This is their argument, if youre an average/normal user this isnt going to affect you from checking emails, normal surfing, the occasional download, etc. But if youre an internet junky downloading lots of HD movies, other massive files, or running a server farm out of your house, then you should be charged more money because youre taking up the bandwidth of other users.
Will this be the end of unlimited usage? |
