The Goldeyes hitters gave Hawkins eight runs in the first inning. In the end, Winnipeg had its sixth straight win. On Tuesday night, Hawkins allowed no runs on three hits through six complete innings and while the Goldeyes bullpen coughed up six runs late in the game, the Fish put up a couple of crooked numbers early and that resulted in a 10-6 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. As 5,512 spectators looked on, the Goldeyes improved to 18-6 on the season and remained 4 ½ games ahead of St. Paul in the race for first in the American Associations North Division. "It was a great crowd tonight but when we put up eight in the first, it kind of thinned out," said Goldeyes centerfielder Chris Roberson, who had a double, a triple and three RBI in the Goldeyes eight-run first. "Thats the first time thats ever happened to me, getting two extra-base hits in one inning. Ive been working hard to get my rhythm and when I saw we were facing this guy (Jino Gonzalez) for the second time this season, I thought I might have a chance to do something. As I get more accustomed to the pitchers in this league, I get a lot more confident at the plate." The Goldeyes made so much noise in the bottom of the first inning; the game was over almost before it started. Price Kendall led off with an infield single and then Chris Roberson doubled and went to third on the throw to the plate to get the Goldeyes on the board first.dddddddddddd After Jon Weber walked and stole second, Luis Alen singled home Roberson and Weber. Then Josh Mazzola walked and Kyle Day doubled down the leftfield line to score Alen. After Amos Ramon struck out and David Narodowski walked, Kendall singled to drive in Mazzola and Day to make the score 6-0 and then Roberson tripled to drive home Narodowski and Kendall and the Goldeyes had an 8-0 advantage. In the fifth, the Goldeyes added a pair as Ramon doubled with Alen on third and Mazzola on second. The two runs gave Winnipeg a 10-0 lead and despite the fact the bullpen allowed two in the seventh, two more in the eighth and two in the ninth, Winnipeg had a large enough cushion to give Hawkins his second win in as many starts against Lincoln. "Hes had two good starts now," said Roberson of Hawkins. "Hes a crafty lefty. I hate facing them, but I love having them on my team. He throws strikes and its hard to beat a guy who throws strikes and moves the ball around. Hes a smart pitcher." Hawkins (2-0, 3.18 ERA) got credit for the victory, Lincoln starter Jino Gonzalez (0-3, 12.21) suffered the loss. The Goldeyes and Saltdogs will complete this three-game series on Wednesday with an 11 a.m. start. Ace Walker (3-0, 3.00 ERA) will get the start for Winnipeg while Ryan Sheldon (2-1, 3.07 ERA) will take the ball for Lincoln. Paul Edmonds will have the call on TSN 1290. ' ' '
