Thoughts on love

A lot of people go through life looking for someone to love and share their lives with. There is something incredibly comforting about having someone special to share your most intimate thoughts with. It is wonderful to know you can say anything and your thoughts are safe with that person; that you can pour out your anger, your hurt, your frustration, your joy, your happiness, your pain and they will take your words and "sift through them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away"
I read something like that years ago and probably worded it differently, but the meaning is the same. It is comforting to know there is someone who understands you inside and out and who often knows you better than you know yourself. It takes an incredible amount of understanding, love and perception to know someone that intimately. It is also extremely powerful and beautiful and probably one of the greatest gifts you can give to another human being, this unconditional love and acceptance.
It's ironic that as much as we want, no crave that kind of love in our lives, that our fear of being hurt often causes us to push away that which we most need to have. How often has love been offered and pushed away out of fear? I think that most of us have done it at some time in our lives. For others it becomes a way of life. The fear of pain becomes a ghost that haunts every new bud of love daring to bloom. The few brave souls who seek to put their hearts on the line and take a chance on loving, and give their love without holding back something for themselves may or may not receive that love in return. But when they get to the place where it doesn't matter, when loving for the sake of loving becomes the only thing that counts, it is then that progress has been made. They move a step forward on their personal journey, and oh the immense growth that takes place within the heart, soul and spirit of that person. It is a glorious sight to behold.
Loving for the sake of loving, unconditionally and without expectations raises us above the earthly plane. It elevates us to a place beyond Self and touches the heavens. It reaches deep down inside our hearts to touch the God within us. Loving such as this transcends our humanity and is pure and holy. It reminds us from where we have come, that we are all gods in our own right and we are here to spread this pure love one to another.
When our love for others can be shared without selfish thought, without judgment or expectations, without jealousy and fear, when it is given purely for the sake of loving, just because. Then this act of loving becomes an Act of the Divine.
