@ fubar Dear NA, Thank you for the friendship request. Of course, I accepted. I can't even pretend to have any native blood ... Australian and Dutch (whew!), but as I believe I mentioned, I grew up among the Oglala Sioux in western South Dakota. One of my best experiences was sweating with Red Cloud at his home lodge. Going into the second hour, some strange things started happening. Little fingers of blue lightning started flitting around the low roof of the lodge. I figured I was hallucinating because of the heat, but the dancing blue lightning persisted. I had to leave, to clear my head, so I begged forgiveness by saying, "Mitakuye Oyasin" (for all my relations), and crawled out of the lodge. Red Cloud and the others came out a few minutes later and asked if I was okay. I told him what I had seen and he just nodded. He said, "What you saw was a messenger from the Spirit World. The messenger was happy, because the lightning was blue. It's not often a wasicun gets to see this because it's kind of a native thing." Pretty profound stuff for a white kid to understand, but Red Cloud went on, "I think the spirits are happy with you because they let you see them. I am calling you Ghost Dance, because you saw the spirits dancing in my sweat lodge." So, that's what I've been called online for the last 10 years or so. Anyhow, dear lady, I've bent your ear enough. Some day, when you have time, let me tell you about what I write. I have a book published about my Lakota friends, and they're the good guys. Until then, I remain, A Perfect Gentleman - Ron |
