                                                               The Tree House

        I saw a tree house in a field one day

      as I was driving by,

        I knew there was something special about it

      but I didn't know why.

         It wasn't anything spectacular

        just simple 2x4's

        but it wasn't finished

        so I wanted to know a little more.

           So I walked up to the door

          and rang the bell,

           A young woman with a little girl

           answered and I knew they had a story

           to tell.

            Her husband started it

           for their daughter , close to the ground

           at the time she was so little

           he wanted her to be safe and sound.

             She told me how he started it,

            her story was really sweet

            but as I was looking at it

            I could tell it was incomplete.

              I asked her if he was gonna finish it

             and if so when,

             she told me he was a firefighter

             in the twin towers when they came down

             he won't ever come home again.

               After hearing her story

              I knew exactly what to do

              I called a few friends

              we were determined to see his project through.

                So with Hammers, nails, 2x4's and saws

               we got to work on that tree house,

               we had a special cause.

                When we were finished,

               and the hammering came to a stop,

               we realized this tree house

               that was once low to the ground

               was at the very top.

                  We were a little nervous

                 we asked the little girl

                 if she could climb so high

                 she said " I don't know,

                 but I can try."

                  Before we knew it

                 she was in that tree house

                 and her mother was in tears

                 we asked her if she was o.k.

                 she said this is the happiest

                 her daughter has been in ten years.

                  As we got ready to leave

                 her mother asked why we built

                 it so close to the sky,

                 I told her we wanted to make it

                 closer to Heaven, so she can talk

                 to her dad and say Hi!.
