The Sea Hunter and His Lady

Standing on the clifftop,

preparing for the dive

to hunt for abalone

to sell and enrich our lives.

I look at my lady,

with long white blonde hair,

tall as a goddess

and much more fair.

I am the sea hunter

with hair of honey blonde and

head and shoulders taller than my lady fair.

On my chest,

my lady's aquamarine

on a chain of white gold,

for always there to be.

Ready with bags on shoulders,

and rocks for weight,

and then the dive,

thirty feet to the sea.

We hit the pale green water

and go below to the depths,

of which we love and know.

Finding two or three,

then up for air we go.

This we repeat,

with kisses shared,

until our bags are nearly full.

Up the cliff we climb,

my lady's bag I carry.

At the top, we share a kiss

for our fortunate find.

To the market to sell our catch,

then home for rest and peace.
