Kirk settled down with a birdie on the 13th, then parred the next two holes before making birdie on the 16th. On No. 17, Kirk pushed his drive into the trees on the right, but hit a remarkable recovery shot that found the bottom of the cup for eagle. "I didnt have a great lie and was kind of behind a tree. I tried to hit a flop shot-flyer nine-iron over the trees and cut it a little bit," said Kirk, who won the Fort Smith Classic earlier this year. "It came out perfect and landed just short of the green. "I hit a really good shot, but when a shot like that goes in its just blind luck. I was definitely in position off the tee where youre trying to find a way to make par. To have it go in is just crazy." He wasnt done, either. Kirk birdied the last to grab a one-stroke lead. Triplett carded a bogey-free round that included five birdies. "To me its not about who youre playing or where youre playing, its what can you do when you get a little nervy and all of a sudden the fairways seem a little narrower," Triplett stated.
