What are you waiting for?

And now, there's a bulletin floating around about CT violating the law because people can anonymously flag your pictures as Not Safe for Work, complaining that the owner of the picture is denied due process, being unable to face the accuser (since he or she is anonymous). In two words: "What crap." Here's the real deal. People, by nature, are jealous, whiny, ungrateful crybabies. If she shows him a shoulder, he wants to see an arm. If she shows him an arm, he wants to see a belly button. If she shows him a belly button, he wants her to go "gyno." The moment this chain is broken, someone gets angry and seeks revenge by flagging their pictures NSFW. There is also the issue that not everyone has the same definition of NSFW. This is why some countries want their women to cover up so that not even hair or facial features show, while other countries don't care if their women walk around with breasts hanging out and bouncing all over the place. CherryTAP prides itself as a community-moderated site, which is why it allows users to flag pictures they find offensive. It does shift some of the responsibility away from the administrators... but maybe too much. The system is flawed and left wide open for abuse. Here's the real fix. Take a page out of what Craig's List, another community-moderated site, does. If users find a posting violates the site's Terms of Service in some way, it takes more than one flag to shoot the posting down. This reduces trolling (harassment through forums by down-rating or improperly flagging postings by specific users; in essence, what is happening here). After several users flag a posting, it is then actioned on. Why not do that here? Before the photo's status is changed to NSFW, 5 to 10 different passers-by should flag it within a certain time frame (a week, for instance). If the picture hits that threshold, it should then be temporarily restricted until an administrator or bouncer (or whoever approves salutes) gets to review it for a final decision. Then, and only then, should it be considered for a permanent NSFW flag if it truly violates rules. CT had the right idea with being community regulated, for the most part, but it sometimes fails in the implementation step.
