A loud explosion suddenly fills the air
Screams of panic and pain come to me
Billows of thick black smoke, I watch rise
Reality of this world has once again come to be
People running past me stained in blood
Bodies laying lifeless here and there
A vehicle burns now mangled steel
These are visions we this day share
A scream of a siren in the distance I now hear
Coming to the aid of those in need
A child legless I now see
Who accomplished this awful deed
Innocence taken from the unsuspecting
On this day as on patrol I walk by
A tear rolls down my dust covered cheek
I look to the heavens and ask, “God why?”
People hold friends in their arms
Their lives slipping from them fast
A body goes limp as I watch in silence
Hoping that this will be the last
A mother clutches a child to her chest
Protecting them as best she can
Building destroyed around as I look
This a view or terrorism as here I stand
A pain I feel in my heart as I watch
Knowing that this is not right
On patrol we walk this very day
To help the ones that are in this plight
Now it is time to move along
Back on patrol we now again start
This is part of my memories I carry
In my mind and deeper in my heart
