TEACHER Stephanie Wood is top of the class after being crowned Miss Staffordshire 2015.

The 24-year-old – who only entered the beauty pageant at the urging of colleagues and relatives – was the overall winner in yesterday's final at Uttoxeter Racecourse.

Stephanie works as a PE teacher at Wolstanton High School and is also currently studying for a master's degree in secondary education.

And she clearly managed to impress the Miss Staffordshire judges with her brains as well as her beauty.

She is now looking forward to competing at Miss England later this year.

Stephanie, of Supreme Street in Middleport, said: "The whole day has been absolutely brilliant. It has been a once in a lifetime opportunity and I enjoyed every minute.

"It just means so much to have won. It feels like I'm still in a dream and I haven't woken up yet. I'm still wearing the crown and I don't want to take it off.

Veterinary nurse Kim Bould, from Blurton, was the runner-up in the beauty contest.

She is now hoping the experience she has gained in the competition will help her in raising funds for animal charities.

The 24-year-old, who works at Nantwich Veterinary Group, said: "It has really been a dream come true. This is something I've always wanted to do, and I had been thinking about not bothering.

"Despite not winning, I can still go back to a job I love. My boss and colleagues all came to support me, which meant a lot.

"I'd never done anything like this before and I just wanted to prove I could do something like this.

"Now I can use this experience to help fund-raise for the charities we help at work, from the RSPCA to the Dog's Trust."

Kim's work colleagues and family cheered her on throughout the pageant, which was held at Uttoxeter Racecourse.

She added: "Regardless of the result I've enjoyed myself immensely. My mum and my nan were there supporting me and I'm sure they were very proud."

The event also featured a Mr Staffordshire competition for the first time.

Among the competitors was aspiring model Brad Fawcett, from Weston Coyney.

The 17-year-old said: "The whole experience has been brilliant. I've made some great friends with the other competitors.

"Everyone of us deserves to win, but for me it would have meant so much. It would have been an amazing honour.

"But regardless, I'm still hoping to use the experience as a stepping stone to a modelling career. I would like to go onto Mr England too."

Lauren Beresford is the events executive at the racecourse and event manager for Mr and Miss Staffordshire, sponsored by The Sentinel, Hair&Co, Attend EDC and Sunkissed.

She said: "The day went very, very well and I'm sure all of the finalists have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

"They have all had the chance to meet new friends. They have loved it and I hope they will return next year. Our winners Stephanie Wood and Andrew Done will now prepare themselves for the Mr and Miss England competitions in August."

"The competition grows every year and this was our first time hold a Mr Staffordshire competition, which went well. We're definitely looking to hold that again next year."
