When life has derailed you
And has brought you to fright
You must bravely face it
And put up a fight.

For no one can do it,
But you and only you.
You must set a goal
And then follow through.

Whether you win or lose
Is really not what counts.
But if you don't even try,
It will hurt in great amounts.

I will try to explain to you
What it is I'm trying to say,
Through what could happen
On a bright shiny day.

He could plainly see her
Standing on the other shore
Of this treacherous river.
"Ahh." he could take it no more.

He knew the river had taken
So many others before him.
But he was so determined,
That this time he would win.

So without any hesitation
He plunged in the water so cold,
And he started to swim
With a determination so bold.

As he struggled to cross
He felt the river grow wider,
And the trees beyond it
Seemed to enclose and hide her.

Because he had to reach her,
Of two things he did know.
He would surely prevail,.
Or in the river die doing so.

His arms were so heavy
And his legs were burning
From the tremendous exertion
Caused by the water he was churning.

But he would not give up,
For he'd made up his mind.
He would cross the river
And he would leave it behind.

And once he had done that,
He would walk up to her,
Take her in his arms,
And they would be together.

So he set upon his task
With determination and devotion,
To move one arm and then the other
And three kicks with every motion.

While just a moment in time,
This ordeal seemed to go on
For what seemed to be forever
And would never be done.

On and on, moment after moment,
Time after time and then once more,
His motions were repeated
Until he reached the other shore.

And when he finally felt
The water getting shallow,
He knew deep in his heart
That he was one lucky fellow.

And once he had made it,
He pulled himself up
To stand on the sand,
.And his hands he did cup.

He looked up at the sky
And with a heart full of love,
He whispered, "Thank you."
To the Lord up above.

He then looked within the trees
And to the left and the right.
But much to his dismay,
She was no where in sight.

His heart it was breaking
And filled with such alarm,
Until he suddenly felt her
Gently caressing his arm.

Yes, I know that this sounds familiar,
Like Running Bear and Little White Dove.
But at least neither of them drowned,
And by at least trying, they still have love
