I was sound asleep last Sunday night when my dog started barking and wouldn't stop. After screaming at her from bed for a few minutes, I decided to get up (assuming that the cat was taunting her from outside her kennel). As I walked through the kitchen, I noticed an elderly lady standing in the middle of my living room!! (yes i forgot to lock the door) I, still half asleep, said, "How the hell can I help you?" She said, "someone is chasing me, someone is chasing me!" So I screamed, "Well lock the goddamned door then!" I then called 911 (and put on some pants before the officer arrived).
As it turns out, there was most likely no one chasing her, poor old thing had some kind of dementia and was out wondering around....
So I guess the moral of the story is lock your door if you don't feel like helping out an old lady in the middle of the night...
and yes, I've been checking the door before bed every night since.
