PtPP P1

This is a series of bedtime stories I made up. I've finally decided to put them down into words. I hope you enjoy the series. The moon was huge like a child's eye open in wonder. Scattered around it were thousands of stars twinkling like gems. The night was clear and brisk hinting that something magical may occur. The moon's light drifted downwards covering an endless expanse of white. The snow covered ground felt empty and lonely. A black speck disturbs the tranquil scene. Moving closer the dot enlarges revealing a penguin sitting on a nest. The penguin has a black and white hankerchief covering her head and a pair of glasses over her eyes. Momma penguin's eyes open as a brief quiver moves through her body. Yet another shiver echoes up her body and a smile breaks out on her face. Standing up momma penguin looks down upon the nest and the five eggs contained within. One of the eggs towers above the rest. Two eggs almost identical lay side by side. The fourth egg has a soft rose color to it standing out amongst the other white eggs. The last egg and the smallest leans against the largest egg. The nest shudders again as cracks begin to appear in the large egg. The pieces of the shell start to fall as a husky penguin shakes his way free of the egg. The penguin could almost pass for being full grown but seeing him totter to one side before balancing out quickly dismisses the idea. His black eyes look around and settle on the twin eggs. The eggs move apart and quickly come back together with a loud crack. Again the eggs move apart and back together almost in perfect unison. The tops of the egg start to shatter and two heads poke through . Both heads are almost entirely covered in black with two small strips of white running down the sides of their neck. They look at each other tilt their heads and blink. A smile breaks out on both of their faces as they wiggle free of their eggs. The colored egg begins to quiver and falls over. It rolls across the nest before stopping in the center. Some delicate taps are heard as a small beak breaks through the egg several times. The last tap causes mutliple cracks to appear connecting the dots where the beak has broken through. The egg falls apart around a cute female penguin with long eyelashes. The last egg jumps up and down. With each bounce more and more cracks spread throughout the egg. One last impact breaks the egg and the smallest penguin topples to the ground. Looking around he sees everyone else standing around him. He pulls himself up only to lose his balance falling right back to the ground. A look of determination fills his face and he tries again. He feels himself starting to shift to the right and and moves his feet to correct it. He sails across the nest bumping into the husky penguin and landing on his back. He quickly rolls over and rises to his feet again. His balance just isn't good enough as he collides with the female penguin sending them both down in a heap of fins. This doesn't set him back and he rises again. He sways to the left. He sways to the right. He almost falters again but somehow keeps himself standing straight up as a look of triumph covers his face Momma penguin has tears in her eyes as she looks upon her babies. "I am so proud of all you." Her eyes move around the nest from penguin to penguin. "Your names will be Jacque and Pierre." as she looks at the twin penguins. "And you Benedict must always look after your brothers and sister." she announces to the husky penguin. "Rose, simple and pefect." Lastly she looks at the smallest penguin who has been moving and exploring the nest the entire time. "You I shall call Peppy for you boundless energy and determination." And thus begins the adventures of Peppy the Pirate Penguin.

Wedding Toast

This is the toast I wrote for my brother's wedding. Keep in mind he stands just over 6'2" and is built like a tank and when I was younger I was as scrawny as a stick. And we used to fight like cats and dogs when we were younger. I couldn't ask for a better brother now! Family, friends and honored guests, it gives me great pleasure to say a few words about Jim and Melissa. I think of all the kindness and gentleness he gave me as we were growing up. Whenever I was being picked on my brother would be right there to support me. He would always stand up and protect me by smacking me around, to show that no one else but him could hit me. He even helped my parents out by throwing me against every new piece of furniture just to make sure it was sturdy enough. So as you can see, I have fond memories of this gentle giant…..a man full of compassion. But seriously that is exactly what my brother is. Underneath that gruff exterior lies a man with a heart of gold who would do anything for his friends and family. And it took a very special woman to bring that side out of him. A woman from the very moment they touched knew him for who he truly was. Melissa your beauty shines from within and it’s no wonder you tamed this wild stallion. I’d welcome you to the family but you’re already a member of it. My greatest wish for the two of you is that through the years your love for each other will so deepen and grow, that years from now you will look back on this day, your wedding day, as the day you loved each the least.* *This last line I read somewhere and really like it so I used it in the toast.

The Flower

This is a little story I wrote for someone I think is very special. I thought I'd post it for everyone to read. Feel free to leave comments both good and bad. Hope you enjoy! Once upon a time there was a flower. This flower lived in a clearing in the middle of the woods. It was purple with white speckles and liked nothing more than to have the sun's rays caress it's petals all day long. Each morning anticipation would fill this flower as it yearned for the first gentle ray to touch it's petals and spread over it's body. On this particular morning the flower was counting the seconds until the sun's rays washed over it but something was wrong! The sun didn't reach it today. The flower looked around concerned but didn't notice anything different today from any other day. The flower stretched up hoping to encounter the calming ray of sunlight but it was no where to be found. Alarmed now and thinking the sun might never touch the flower again, the flower noticed that one of the trees had grown so large that he was blocking the sun from reaching the poor delicate flower. Each morning the flower tried to reach the sun's rays and each morning the rays seemed farther and farther away. The once beautiful flower started to lose it's allustrious sheen. The vibrant purple fading to a dark brown. No longer did the flower try to feel for the sun or look forward to the morning. A sob escaped the flower and echoed throughout the woods as a single tear fell from it's petal. Unbeknowst to the flower a large sleeping tree heard the sob and woke from it's years slumber. Looking down upon the clearing it saw grass, sticks, dirt and a small flower. Gazing at the flower made the tree smile and think of all the good things the tree had experienced. The tree noticed that this flower was bent over and covered in the shade of one of his branches. The sob had come from this flower the tree realized. The tree felt ashamed that he had slept for so many years ignoring the beauty around him and with much effort moved his branch causing a sliver of sun to touch the exposed flower. The flower jumped from such warmth the flower thought never to experience again and started to stand a little straighter. The tree would move it's branch during the day to bring the little flower sunlight and each day the flower stood up straighter and straighter. The vibrant purple started to glow again until one day the unimaginable happened. One morning there were two flowers. One smaller than the first but just as beautiful and full of life. Each day the clearing started to fill with more and more flowers. Looking down the tree finally cryed knowing that just caring about one little flower could result in a meadow of happiness.
