I am a trainer and was asked to run a two-week course in the Middle East to give people a quick overview of our product - a complex computer system. I am now three days into the course, and I find that the trainees have been led to believe that the course aims are completely different from what I was asked to provide. One group thought they were going to shadow people to learn how they actually implement the product (it's a theory-based classroom course). Another group were told it would be an in-depth implementation course rather than a high level overview.
So, we have all travelled to take part in a course that will not meet anyone's needs - and I feel totally stitched up. Should I:
A) Tell them straight that they will not get what they need from the course
or
B) Tell them I have an extremely infectious virus, so I need to cancel the remainder of the course
