What are you waiting for?

This has been copied and pasted from Newscenter 16 WNDU-TV Perhaps this should be in my Weather Conditions Blog as it pertains to weather. Berrien County Michigan along with some other counties as well are under a BLIZZARD WARNING! So what does this mean? "IT'S SNOWING AND BLOWING LIKE CRAZY" does this mean: A - go do some major holiday shopping because Christmas is almost here and we haven't finished or B - Stay at home where we can be warm and save? OMG! why don't they just close all roads so people won't be out and tell them they need to have a valid emergency for being out on the roads. But first off I'd like to remind you of another pile up last year near Michigan City! Major highways I think are the worst to be traveling in weather like this. Yes they may have the snow cleared better but the maximum speed limit is set at 70 mph! So you get fools on the highway that are going to go as fast as they possibly can. Not giving it any thought to SLOW DOWN as there might be an icy patch in the road, someone's car stalled, a deer or something jumping in front of you. Then what? Are you gonna be able to stop in time? People think twice before this happens to you. This may not be you in this pileup, but it could be a friend or relative you know. If not this time it could be you or someone you know the next time. Take your time, stay in the right hand land the slower lane if the fools want to pass let them. By all means don't speed up just because they are on your arse!

Storm causes 100-vehicle crash, shuts down I-94 in Stevensville Posted: 5:26 PM Dec 21, 2008 Last Updated: 6:58 PM Dec 21, 2008 Reporter: Associated Press/WNDU-TV Michigan's latest snowstorm is responsible for a chain-reaction accident that affected nearly 100 vehicles and forced officials to close part of Interstate 94. State police shut down a six-mile stretch of the highway near Lake Michigan in Stevensville this afternoon. The Berrien County Sheriff's Department says a 31-year-old Illinois man died in the accident, after his car rear-ended a semi. Michigan residents have been trying to dig out from as much as 13 inches of snow that has fallen since Friday. The National Weather Service is predicting similar amounts of new snow in some parts of Michigan, along with temperatures plunging into single digits. We will have a live report on the accident this evening on NewsCenter 16 at 6:00.

On the 6 pm news so far one has been reported DEAD! If you must go out then do so but drive with caution! Only use a cell phone parked and off to the side of the road not while driving. By all means give enough room between you and the person in front you in case you have to stop. By law you should be at least one vehicle length per 10 mph you are traveling. But do you? I don't know how many people end up on my arse! This is even going at the posted Speed Limit because people are in too much of a hurry to get to where they are going. SLOW down or the next obituary someone reads might be yours!

(Photo courtesy Mark Parren) By WSBT News1 Story Created: Dec 21, 2008 at 2:19 PM EST Story Updated: Dec 21, 2008 at 6:55 PM EST BERRIEN COUNTY--White-out conditions and icy roads are to blame for a 100 car pile-up on I-94 in Berrien County. It started around noon near the 27 mile-marker, and closed I-94 for hours. That’s near the Niles Road overpass. Related Content One person was killed in the pile-ups. Police are not releasing that person’s name. Tow truck drivers brought many of the damaged cars to a motel parking lot, just to clear them off the road. WSBT News talked to some of the drivers involved who said they were driving in whiteout or near whiteout conditions when they realized it was too late to stop. In all, police say about 80 cars were damaged in the pile-up and another 20 slid into ditches and guardrails trying to avoid it. Right now, roads across the area are treacherous. Blowing and drifting snow are making it nearly impossible to see what’s in front of you, and by the time you realize you need to stop, the ice on the roads makes it difficult to stop. Police closed down an 11 mile stretch of I-94, between mile marker 16 and mile marker 27 while they cleared the pile-up. People involved in the pile-up say it was scary because they didn’t know when it was going to end. As it gets later and darker, police say the road conditions are only going to get worse. Michigan State Police are urging all drivers in this area to stay home Sunday night.

Well there they've said it "Michigan State Police are urging all drivers in this area to stay home Sunday night." But why was this said after the fact? Why should it even need to be said to get people to stay home in weather like this? I am just hoping that through it all we don't loose electric! I know most roads around here have been drifted shut for awhile now, I have been on the phone with my brother who just come into town to the pro mart to get milk. Even with the 4 wheel drive pick up he was trying to keep his EX GF/Fiance from leaving his place as she was there with her son playing with his daughter. But she left out in it. Haven't heard anything more yet. I know her mother is trying to lay a guilt trip on him. But you'd have to know the whole story of what she'd been doing to him all summer long. Supposedly, pregnant with my brother's baby, but already a mother and sure doesn't act like one! Take Care and Stay Warm!!!!
