St. Baldrick's 2009

Hey everyone, It's that time of year again, time to get Bald!! For those of you who have known me a couple of years, this is old hat, but for my new "friends," or for others who may be hearing of this for the first time, here goes. Every year, around St. Patrick's Day, I participate in an event called St. Baldrick's Day, wherein otherwise normal people shave their heads in an act of Solidarity with children who have cancer. The unique thing about this event is that ALL money raised goes to research of various kinds of CHILDHOOD cancer, and ONLY childhood cancer. This will be my eighth year participating in this event, making me (I believe) the only Shavee to lose his locks every year we have had an event in Pittsburgh, PA. So far, through the first 7 year, I have raised around $10,000, and would like to better me yearly average this year. You may ask why I do this, and so I will tell. Back in 1999, my little brother, Erich Andrew "Andy" Beck, was diagnosed with cancer, he was 20 months old at the time. He lost a kidney and went through chemo and radiation, but being the fighter he is, he beat it and after maintaining "clean scans" for 5 years was declared a "Survivor"!! We lost Andy to complications from those earlier surgeries in Feb. 2005, but the strength and courage he showed during his fight back in 1999-2000 was an inspiration to all who know him. If you would like the full story, my step-mother has set up a website about him and his fight, she has graciously given me permission to share his story with all of you. Here is the link: http://www.geocities.com/eandybeck/ So now you know why, every year for the past 7, I have spent about half the year bald and then begin growing it back to shave again. This year's event will be on Saturday, March 14, 2008. we will be at Claddagh's in the South Side Works, from 12:00 - 4:00. come on down and join us!! If you'd like to donate, the following will take you to my donation page: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/shavee_info.php?ParticipantKey=2009-63561 Thanks for all your help, assistance and mostly support over the years. If you believe in the cause as much as I do, please pass this along to your friends and family (Hell, if you know of any businesses who might like to make a donation, send it to them as well!!) Any one with any questions email me at: carl.buddha.beck@gmail.com Thanks again for your help, Carl "Buddha" Beck PS. In the event that they are not working here, the above links are also available on a fairly regular basis thru my FaceBook page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id=589970417&v=info&viewas=589970417
