Today I chaperoned my sons trip to Junior Achievers Enterprise. Its a hands on learning experience that the 5th graders were invited to attend. Each student was given a specific job ranging from McDonalds cashiers to Editors at the Tampa Tribune. My son, who is in the 3rd grade, a select other 3rd graders were also invited. Curtis had the job of an Investment Broker for Raymond James. He really enjoyed his job, and learning about stocks and such. Everyone had a great time, as you can see in the pics. On the way home after a long day of work, I received a phone call from my sons teacher. She began the conversation with "Hi, this is Mrs. Baldwin, how are you?" She went on to say " I wanted to call and congratulate you on your wonderful son. Today we got the results for the FCATS, and you will be pleased to know that he did exceptionally well...." Curtis scored a high 4 on his reading, and a 5 on his math, in which he aced one particular section. The highest score possible for both is 5. Here's a link for those interested in learning more: http://fcat.fldoe.org/ And, that's not all ... Following the FCAT test, they also took a test called the Norm Referenced Test. She went on to say that nationally Curtis scored in the 98th percentile on this. He was the highest scoring student in his class on both tests this year. Wrapping up the conversation, she told me that if she had Curtis for a grandson, she would be so very proud, as she is sure I am, and that she would never stop bragging on him. He is very well rounded, intelligent, and she loves having him in her class. I still have a perma grin on my face, and yes, I am bragging...wouldn't you? I was asked by my mom where my son gets it from My father replied "From grandpa, of course." Wherever his amazing gift comes from, I hope he always has it, he makes me SO proud. Work has slowed down a bit, and is not as exciting as it use to be. It still is my favorite job by far, and the days sometimes still go by quickly.
