Not that the rest of America really cares (as evidenced by the Nielsen ratings), but the San Antonio Spurs won their fourth NBA world championship Thursday night in nine years. To celebrate I went alone to downtown (going alone -- story of my life =/ well, nobody is really available or interested in going there, but anyway.)
It was a fucking great time. I did hang out with some pals before hand, watching the game to its nail-biting conclusion. Finally, some Spurs like Manu Ginobili make their free throws. What a concept ;-p In the end, the Cleveland Cavaliers showed their inexperience and youth. They're a great time, just missing a few pieces to the puzzle and a bit of maturity. But King James and company will be strong next year.
In the meantime, the Spurs showed again why they're not only one of the elite teams in the NBA, but one of the strongest, most professional, well led professional sports franchises in America. The Spurs epitomize the word "teamwork" from the front office down to the ticket ushers. As a lifelong San Antonian, I'm proud to call them my team, the only pro franchise to bring excitement to this small/big town of ours.
Anyhow after hanging out with my buds (getting plenty drunk along the way, I may add =), I went downtown, running along the sidewalks, exchanging hi-fives, whooping and a hollering. It was tremendous. It got my blood pumping. It got me a bit sober. It got my asthma acting up, but that's beside the point. I even got into a club for free and snatched a free drink (Irish Car Bombs are beautiful things! =) from a woman who actually tried to pick ME up! Will wonders ever cease?! LOL
All in all, another fantastic night not only for Spurs fans, but for San Antonians and those who like class in their sports teams. Viva Spurs! It's 3:40 a.m. upon posting this blog and I feel fucking great (although the Shiner Bocks earlier helped LOL)! How 'bout you?!
