What are you waiting for?

I realize some words in the English language can be a bit confusing, such as quiet and quite, accept and except, and the really Big Ones- Your and You’re. But some people seem to have no self respect. They need to learn to proofread their comments before clicking the submit button. There is such a thing as spell check, and if you can’t find that you can use Google. If you type any word into Google and its spelled wrong, Google will ask, did you mean this ____ and will provide you with the correct spelling. Reading Blogs and comments has become somewhat of a chore for me due to the horrible lack of spelling and grammar skills that are all over the internet. Some are written like a teen sending a text message to another teen. Others sound like they were written by Rain Man, as if somehow that makes them sound cool. It’s embarrassing is what it is, and shows complete disregard and blatant disrespect for the reader in my opinion. It’s not that hard, it is not rocket science to learn to construct a sentence and spell correctly. This lazy approach to written communication goes hand-in-hand with the lackadaisical attitude shown by many in all other aspects of life and I find it very disappointing and troubling. Writing well and spelling correctly are skills to be learned and to be proud of, or should be anyway. When I read a comment that is full of misspelled words and/or written in text message short-hand or homie-to-homie lingo, I can’t focus on the message. In fact I’m to the point now where I simply skip those comments because it makes my head hurt trying to puzzle out what that person was attempting to communicate. I actually feel a surge of excitement, relief and pleasure when I find Blogs and comments that are well written! I’m no genius, but I know how to use the tools at my disposal when I need help. I’ve included the links to some of those tools at the end of this rant. Before I post something for all the world to read, I proofread it more than once and I spell check it. If only everyone would do the same, what a wonderful world the web would be! I know I’m not alone in feeling this way because I have seen numerous comments venting frustrations over this so I’d like to see some feedback on it. What are your pet peeves when it comes to spelling and grammar atrocities found on the web? http://www.confusingwords.com/ http://www.learnenglish.de/mistakes/CommonMistakes.htm http://www.wordfiles.info/ http://homepage.smc.edu/reading
