What are you waiting for?

Ring... ring... "Hey, Mom! Are we still meeting to eat??? .... Where at??? .... How soon can you get here??? .... Is it okay if Aaron meets us there too??? ...." The call came in around 5pm. Because of traffic, I didn't catch up with her at Chuy's until close to 5:30. Aaron arrived after I did; just as we were called to be seated. What perfect timing! All things were good....until we were seated at a table on the back porch area. I sat down..... CRUNNNNNNCH!!! The dang plastic chair gave way and I fell on my side to the knee. The chair scraped my skin and ripped open the side of my pants. My son in law helped me up and offered to do something. I asked him if he would mind getting me one of the empty metal chairs from the other side of the outdoors area. Sat down in that and my pants continued to rip and was way to airy to the crowd of folks eating outdoors. I was going to move the chair to the other side of the table, but then I noticed that blood was also streaming down my pants! Ohhhhhhh, nooooooooo...... We decided to go ahead and leave. I grabbed the ends of the pants that were flapping in the wind and leaving my entire rumpus and right leg exposed to the world and grabbed them together to hold them together as much as possible to get through the entire outdoors crowd and indoor crowd as quickly as possible. When we made it to my daughter's car, I showed it to both my daughter and Aaron. The squirmed a bit and said that I might have to go to the hospital. I was trusting on their word and said okay, I'd go to Seton since it was just across and down the highway a bit. I told them to go on and get something to eat for dinner. My car wasn't too far from my daughter's car and I quickly got to the car (while holding the flaps together and jumped in and drove to the hospital. Once there, I again had to do some maneuvers to get out of the car and into the emergency room as expediently as possible. Once in, I went to the desk with a "1" above it. I asked if I could see someone. I told them that I had been cut by a plastic chair at a restaurant and was bleeding. "Okay. Can you please fill out these forms?" LOL... I looked at them and continued to explain that I am right handed and if I released the flaps of my pants, I would be leaving my rumpus and leg exposed for all of the waiting room to see. "Would you mind writing down the information for me?" They agreed and had me sign still with my left hand. When you are dominant right handed, your left handed signature just doesn't quite look right!! (To say the least.....) ANYHOW.... After waiting in the waiting room for 1/2 hr, they were able to see me. (Thank goodness they gave me a blanket that I could partially sit upon and wrap around my rump/leg so that I wouldn't continue to have them exposed.) In short, the cuts weren't too deep and they were able to put some strips on to aid in the healing process of it being brought together and avoid having stitches altogether. While waiting in the waiting room, I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager because I knew that I had left some blood on the metal chair that they might want to clean up and take a look at the plastic chair and probably throw it away. I told her where we had put them. She offered to pay for a new pair of pants. I accepted her kind offer and gave her my information and she created an accident report over the phone. While being examined by the doctor, I mentioned that I had been having some abdominal pains and my belly button has become a partial "outie" when it has been an "innie" all my life. He informed me that I have an umbilical hernia and I should have surgery for it very soon. GREAT!! Just something I wanted to hear. He would refer a general surgeon for me. The assistant came in and put the strips (strong enough to last for about 3 days) on my leg/rumpus area. When he saw the instructions about the abdominal pain, he mentioned since I don't have insurance, I could qualify under a medical assistance program and get the surgery done for free!! THERE!! A possible silver lining in having had to go to the hospital after falling out of a plastic chair at Chuy's this afternoon. While I was ever so embarrassed at the event at Chuy's, I am glad I might be able to get some medical treatment for my pains that I have been having for the past 6 weeks or so. :D I stopped at KFC on the way home to pick up some chicken. The guy says to me, "How is your evening?" "Oh, fine...." and I tell him about my chain of events. He said, "Oh, yeah, that happen to me too.l..and, at Chuy's too! I wrecked my car!" We laughed about each others events and I wished him, "Hope you have a better day soon," as I reached for my food and drove off. I guess things could have been much worse and I am grateful that things ended up as they did. :D I needed to stop for some gas along the way home, but didn't want to be standing at the gas pump with my pants flapping in the wind and me trying to figure out how to safely pump the gas and hold the flaps at the same time... lol.... That can wait for another day. :D
